PART B
Cloud computing refers to the delivering computing services over the network rather than
computing services at the user’s location. Data will be stored in drives for example One Drive,
DropBox
There are 3 main cloud models namely :
1 Platform as a service (Paas)
2 Infrastructure as a service (Iaas)
3 Software as a service (Saas)
1 Platform as a service Paas
Paas cloud computing platform is created for the programmer to develop, test, run and manage the
application. It intergrates with web services and databases.it uses the internet for online storage and
processing of data.it support multiple languages and framework. Examples are Windows Azure,
Heroku, Google App Engine,Force.com. Some merits of using Saas include lower total cost of
ownership through elimination of hardware expenses maintenance cost. Saas provide web
softwares and apps to complete business tasks.
2 Infrastructure as a service Paas
Iaas is also known as Hardware as a Service. It is a computing infrastructure managed over the
internet. It provides a virtual platforms and tools to create, test and deploy apps. Mainly used by
developers. Its characteristics are resources are available as a service, services are highly scalabe,
automated administrative tasks and GUI and API-based access. Examples include Digital Ocean,
Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Cisco Metacloud
3 Software as a service Saas
AIso known as on-demand software. It is a software in which the applications are hosted by a cloud
service provider. Users can access these applications with the help of internet connection and web
browser. It provides access to resources such as virtual machines and virtual storage. Mainly used by
network architects.
How data is processed
Electronic data processing refers to the gathering of data using electronic devices such as
computers, servers and calculators. Users upload data to servers via an internet connection, where it
is saved on a virtual machine or a physical server. To maintain availability and provide redundancy,
cloud providers will often spread data to multiple virtual machines in data to multiple virtual

machines in data centers located across the world. It also involves analyzing data and summarizing
and recording the output in a usable form. Examples of data processing systems include barcode
systems, accounting systems, record- keeping systems
How electronic data is stored
Data can be recorded and stored in three main forms namely file storage, block storage and object
storage. Cloud storage uses remote servers to save data, such as files, business data, videos, or
images. Digital data may be stored in various types of media including magnetic media e.g hard
drives, random access memory and optical media e.g CD-ROM.
Cloud storage exists in different types that are :
1. Public Cloud
2. Private Cloud
3. Hybrid Cloud
1. Public Cloud
This is a type of computing where resources are offered by a third – party provider
via the internet and shared by organizations and individuals who want to use or
purchase them. They may be free or sold on demand, allowing customers to pay only
per usage for the CPU cycles, storage , or bandwidth they consume.
2. Private Cloud
It is a type of computing services offered either over the internet or a private internal
network and only to select users instead of the general public. Private cloud allows
for greater customization of the infrastructure, applications, and services.
3. Hybrid Cloud
This is a mixed computing environment where applications are run using a
combination of computing, storage, and services in different environments. It is a
superior option when compared to other cloud solutions. Some of the benefits
include scalability, security, cost, control and speed
Community Cloud
It is mend for community organizations. It is a distributed system and is created by
intergrating services of different clouds to address the specific needs of a community
or a business. It is generally managed by third parties or by one or more
organization in the community.

Advantages of Cloud computing
Very easy to develop applications.
Infrastructure costs are reduced.
Fast way of storing data.
Disadvantages of cloud computing
Requires high speed internet connection.
Data loss or theft.
Data can corrupt.
