Amaterasu's brother, the storm god Susano’o, had vandalized her rice fields, threw a flayed horse at
her loom, and brutally killed one of her maidens due to a quarrel between them. In turn, Amaterasu
became furious with him and retreated into the Heavenly Rock Cave, Amano-lwato. With Amaterasu
in hiding, the world plunged into darkness and chaos without the illumination of the sun.

No matter how hard the gods and goddesses tried, they could not convince Amaterasu, who blocked
the cave entrance with a rock, to reappear. After almost a year, Omoikane, a Shinto god of wisdom and
intelligence, determined that if she would not come out of her own volition, they would have to lure her
out with curiosity. To this end, a grand party was thrown.

The plan worked, as the music, dancing, and joyous cries of the gods did indeed peak Amaterasu’s
attention. The noise intensified when Ame-no-Uzume performed a particularly revealing dance. Her

Ram) erected by Ame-no-Uzume. Fascinated by the light of her own reflection, Amaterasu at last came
to the mouth of the cave. It was at that moment Omoikane drew back the stone that blocked the
entrance. As he did so, Amaterasu’s light reentered the world, illuminating the chaos that had been left
in her wake.

About Gashapon

Gashapo, also known as gachapon, are a variety of

vending machine-dispensed capsule toys. The term is
onomatopoeic from the two sounds "gasha" (or "gacha")

About Kouhaku Uta Gassen
The NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen (41 Bak & 3X, lit. Red and
White Song Battle), more commonly known simply as
Kohaku, is an annual New Year's Eve television special
produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK. It is
broadcast live simultaneously on television and radio, - Ys

nationally and internationally by the NHK network. The NHK ran FEF aaa ing
show ends shortly before midnight.

The program divides the most popular music artists of the year into competing teams of red and white.
The "red" team or akagumi (JR 4H, #1#H) is composed of all female artists (or groups with female vocals),
while the "white" team or shirogumi (Ai#f) is all male (or groups with male vocals). At the end of the show,
judges and the audience vote to decide which group performed better.

The honor of performing on Kohaku is strictly by invitation, so only the most successful singing acts in the
Japanese entertainment industry can perform. Even today, a performance on Kohaku is said to be a big
highlight in a singer's career because of the show's wide reach.

Both teams had been neck-and-neck in total wins in the history of the competition until 2005 (28 wins
each), after which the white team started to pull away with the current tally at 39 white team wins to 33 red
team wins.

About Telling on your Classmates

If there’s something common among all Japanese grade schoolers, it’s the culture of telling on
their classmates for doing something they shouldn't be doing. So much so that even though
there’s no “official” song for it, and the lyrics differ ever so slightly from region to region, for some
reason the melody for this children’s tune is pretty much the same in every grade school
throughout the entire country of Japan. It goes something like this:

About Kujikuri Beach

Kujikuri Beach (Kujikurihama) is a sandy beach located
in Chiba Prefecture. It is around 60km long, and is
relatively straight, in contrast to the typically irregular
coastlines of Japan. It is sometimes called the Kujikuri
Coastline due to its similarity to the Australian Gold Coast.

About Ema

Ema 4 (lit. Picture-Horse), are small wooden

plaques/tablets in which Shinto and Buddhist worshippers write
prayers or wishes. They are left hanging up at the shrine to act

About Offline/Online Editing

In video production, video editing is done after filming is complete. There are two parts in the editing phase:

Offline editing refers to the creation of a rough cut of a video using low-quality footage. Editors use this draft
to make various decisions like determining the sequence of the shots, timing of the cuts, as well as pacing of
the whole video, among many other decisions.

Online editing occurs after offline editing. It refers to the creation of a final cut and involves adding final
touches using high-quality (preferably uncompressed) footage. Editors work on tasks like sound editing, sound
design, color correction and color grading, as well as any required special effects, all of which contribute
towards a polished final product.
