“The Living Coal”
( Isaiah 6: 1-10)
Key text:
Isaiah 6:6-7
Main Points
• Isaiah had denounced the sin of others, but now he sees himself exposed to the
same condemnation he had pronounced upon them.
• He had a cold, lifeless ceremony in his worship of God.
• He had not known this until the vision was given Him of the Lord.
• The vision given to Isaiah represents the condition of God’s people in the last
days.
• Like Isaiah, he will receive the impression the Lord designs shall be made
upon the heart, if they will humble their souls before God, there is hope for
them. The living coal is symbolical of PURIFICATION.
John 17:17
Sanctify them by thy truth, your word is truth.
Purification requires:
Reading the word of God
Looking with faith in Jesus
Humble our souls before Jesus Conclusion:
• We want the living coal from off the altar placed upon our lips.
• We want to hear the word spoken, “thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin
purged.”
• As they looked by faith into the holy of hollies, and see the work of Christ in
the heavenly sanctuary, they perceive that they are a people of unclean lips- a
people who lips have often spoken vanity, and whose talents have not been
sanctified and employed to the glory of God.

The Agenda/Plan of Satan and His Angels
Keep us from forming an intimate, abiding experience in Christ but they will exert
double effort to distract us from gaining hold of their Savior and maintaining a vital
connection throughout their day.
How can they distract us?
By keeping us busy in all nonessentials of life and invent unnumbered
schemes to occupy our time and attention.
By temptations
By being workaholic
Overstimulating our minds so that they cannot hear the still small voice
of God any longer.
Keeping us from praying for one another.
By rushing here and there
Satan doesn’t mind if our lives are consumed in ministry or service to God (like
Martha), as long as we don’t have time to sit still as Jesus feet.
“I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same
bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.”
John 15:5
What is the solution for this dilemma?
Putting God first
Everything will follow
Making Time with God a Priority
Making time for daily devotions is not something we do so we can check it off
our to-do list for the day. It’s so we can know our Savior and King.
Do not leave your closet until you feel strong in God. Until we have this peace,
we must not leave our time with Him. -Mrs. Ellen G. White
This is not about fitting Him around our agenda, but making ourselves
available to His agenda.
We should give ourselves time to think, to pray, to wait upon God for renewal
of physical, mental and spiritual power. We need the uplifting influence of His
Spirit.
God worked miracle after miracle as we made our daily time with God our
first priority.
The great people of the earth todays are the people who PRAY.
Sometimes we think we are too busy to pray. That is a great mistake, for
praying is a saving of time.-Charles Spungeon
If God is truly going to be free to work powerfully in our lives, something has
to change-and that is our PRIORITIES.
“THOU CANST MAKE ME CLEAN”
The Desire of Ages Chapter 27
The Story of the Leper
(Matthew 8:4)
Leprosy
Of all diseases known in the East the leprosy was most dreaded. It’s incurable
and contagious character, and its horrible effect upon its victims, filled the
bravest with fear.
Among the Jews, it was regarded as a judgment on account of sin, and hence
was called
“the stroke”, “the finger of God.” Deep-rooted, ineradicable, deadly, it was
look upon as a symbol of sin.
Main Points:
The work of Christ in cleansing the leper from his terrible disease is an
illustration of His work in cleansing the soul from sin.
When we pray for earthly blessings, the answer to our prayer may be delayed,
or God may give us something other than ask, but not so when we ask for the
deliverance from sin. It is His will to cleanse us from sin, to make us His
children, and to enable us to live a long life.
Christ gave himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world,
according to the will of God and our Father. (Gal. 1:4)
And “this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to
His will he heareth us, and if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know
that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. (1 John 5:14-15)
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
The Story of the Paralytic Man
Matthew 9:1-8
The healing of the paralytic also illustrates other precious truths. It is full of
hope and encouragement, from its connection with the caviling Pharisees it has
a lesson of warning as well.
Like the leper, this paralytic had lost all hope of recovery. His disease was the
result of a life of sin and his sufferings were embittered by remorse.
The paralytic man desired not only physical restoration but also relief from the
burden of sin.
If he could see Jesus and receive the assurance of forgiveness and peace with
Heaven, he would be content to live or die according to God’s will.
Jesus has watched the first glimmer of faith grow into a belief that he was the
sinner’s only helper, and had seen it grow stronger with every effort to come
into his presence.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the
works of the devil. (1 John 3:8)
Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all
thine iniquities; and who healeth all thy diseases. (Psalms 103:2-3)
