HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Human Resource Management can be defined as planning, organizing, directing, controlling, developing,
maintaining, etc. of the human resources in order to achieve, the social and individual objectives of the organization.

Human Resource Management is the department of a business organization that looks after the hiring,
management, and firing of staff. Human Resource Management focuses on the function of people within the
organization to ensure the best work, practice are in the place at all times.
Functions of HRM:

1. Job design and job analysis


One of the foremost functions of HRM is job design and job analysis. Job design involves the process of describing
duties, responsibilities and operations of the job. To hire the right employees based on rationality and research, it is
imperative to identify the traits of an ideal candidate who would be suitable for the job. This can be accomplished by
describing the skills and character traits of your top-performing employee. Doing so will help you determine the kind
of candidate you want for the job. You will be able to identify your key minimum requirements in the candidate to
qualify for the job.

2. Employee hiring and selection


Recruitment is one of the primary functions of human resource management. HRM aims to obtain and retain
qualified and efficient employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the company. All this starts with hiring the
right employees out of the list of applicants and favorable candidates.

3. Employee training & development


Imparting proper training and ensuring the right development of the selected candidates is a crucial function of HR.
After all, the success of the organisation depends on how well the employees are trained for the job and what are
their growth and development opportunities within the organisation.

4. Compensation and Benefits


The primary objective of the benefits and compensation is to establish equitable and fair remuneration for everyone.
Plus, HR can use benefits and compensation as a leverage to boost employee productivity as well as establish a good
public image of the business.

5. Health and safety regulations


Every employer should mandatorily follow the health and safety regulations laid out by the authorities. Our labour
laws insist every employer to provide whatever training, supplies, PPE, and essential information to ensure the
safety and health of the employees. Integrating the health and safety regulations with company procedures or
culture is the right way to ensure the safety of the employees. Making these safety regulations part of the company
activities is one of the important functions of HRM.

6. Employee performance management


The next activity on HR functions list is effective employee performance management. Effective performance
management ensures that the output of the employees meets the goals and objective of the organisation.
Performance management doesn’t just focus on the performance of the employee. It also focuses on the
performance of the team, the department, and the organisation as a whole.

The Roles of the HR Manager

Following are some of the roles the HR Manager plays in ensuring smooth functioning of the organization -
 Conducting interviews and selecting the appropriate candidates.
 Manage the entire recruitment and placement processes effectively.
 Assigning job roles and designations as per the abilities of the candidate.
 Ensuring training and induction processes are in place to welcome candidates.
 Work consistently with the founding team on enhancing organizational climate.
 Organize programs as and when need to boost employees’ mental health.
Importance of HRM are:
1. Objective :-
HRM helps a company to achieve its objective from time to time by creating a positive attitude among workers.
Reducing wastage and making maximum use of resources etc.

2. Facilitates professional growth :-


Due to proper HR policies employees are trained well and this makes them ready for future promotions. Their talent
can be utilized not only in the company in which they are currently working but also in other companies which the
employees may join in the future.

3. Better relations between union and management :-


Healthy HRM practices can help the organization to maintain co-ordinal relationship with the unions. Union
members start realizing that the company is also interested in the workers and will not go against them therefore
chances of going on strike are greatly reduced.

4. Helps an individual to work in a team/group :-


Effective HR practices teach individuals team work and adjustment. The individuals are now very comfortable while
working in team thus team work improves.

5. Identifies person for the future :-


Since employees are constantly trained, they are ready to meet the job requirements. The company is also able to
identify potential employees who can be promoted in the future for the top level jobs. Thus one of the advantages of
HRM is preparing people for the future.

6. Allocating the jobs to the right person :-


If proper recruitment and selection methods are followed, the company will be able to select the right people for the
right job. When this happens the number of people leaving the job will reduce as the will be satisfied with their job
leading to decrease in labor turnover.

7. Improves the economy :


Effective HR practices lead to higher profits and better performance by companies due to this the company achieves
a chance to enter into new business and start new ventured thus industrial development increases and the economy
improves.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT


Human Resource Development refers to the vast field of training and development of employee provided by the
organization to increase the knowledge, skill, education, and abilities. In many organizations Human Resource
Development process begins with the hiring of new employee and continues throughout that employee tenure with
the organization.

The following is a list of the key features of human resource development:

 Human Resources Development places a strong emphasis on the organization's human resources.
 It aids the organization's employees in growing their general capabilities with respect to their
current positions and anticipated future roles.
 HRD places a strong emphasis on enhancing and best utilising each person's strengths for the
benefit of the organization's workers.
 It aids in creating or improving better interpersonal relationships. It emphasises the need of
forging bonds of support, confidence, and trust.
 Human Resources Development encourages teamwork among workers.
