INSTRUCTIONS TO CANIDATES:
This paper consists of two sections: A and B. It has three examination items
The Item in Section A is Compulsory.
Section B has three items. Answer two items from Section B
Any additional item(s) answered will not be scored.
All responses should be prepared in format writing lay outs

SECTION A
This Section is compulsory
Item 1.
In Uganda, many rural schools face challenges accessing resources for teaching and learning due to distance and resource
limitations. READERS S.S located in Gulu district recently received a grant to install ICT tools for virtual learning
sessions with schools in Kampala.
This was intended to help learners in the various districts share knowledge and connect with one another as regards their
academic progress
Task:
Explain how virtual learning sessions between Readers S.S and a Kampala – based school can be set up using ICT tools.
Discuss the necessary safety precautions Readers S.S students and teachers should take to protect personal data during
these virtual learning sessions.
SECTION B
PART 1

Item 2.
In Tech Solutions Ltd, a data entrant responsible for entering clients’ records spends long hours on a computer. For the
past four years, he has been using an old CRT monitor until recently when the company management replaced it with a
new LED screen. He has begun complaining of general body weakness and has started wearing glasses to see properly.
The various electronic equipment along with the old monitor were considered out of date and were thrown by the
company estate manager in the nearby bush. The company’s neighbors have started complaining

about the kind of trash, the company management dumped in the area. You have been approached as an ICT student to
provide guidance on the company’s challenges.
Task:
Guide the tech solutions LTD management on how best they should have handled their rubbish.
Make a write up to address the data entrant’s ill health.
Item 3.
Kyeswa S.S is a community school founded by community members including parents and well – wishes. The school was
initially using a manual system to record students’ scores in Activities of Integration (AOI) and project assessment and
had a population of 200 students.
When the students’ population increased to 900 in two years, it became difficult and tiresome to correctly record and
retrieve students’’ data. Of recent, the school opted for school management information System (MIS) which is used by
almost all the staff since its networked.
The bursar uses it for fees records and registration of new students while teachers use it to record students’ scores.
However, the administrators realized that: a lot of ICT devices were needed, there was data loss and errors in marks of
students’ scores and sometimes the system could slow down and fail to work due to malware.
Task:
(a) Make a write up detailing how the school IT administers can solve the identified challenges while using a variety of
security techniques.
(b) After acquiring many ICT tools, they are liable to failure to work; as an ICT student demonstrate how the school can
manage ICT devices that are no longer needed or in use.
PART II
Choose ONE Item from this part.
Item 4.

Amina is a qualified primary school teacher who has taught in a nursery school for quite some time. She has
been earning a monthly salary of UGX 200,000 though not promptly paid. She recently landed on her dream job in
a newspaper.

The school requires applicants to submit their application letters, Curriculum Vitae (CV) and academic
documents online. However, Amina’s academic documents are kept somewhere in an envelope and she does
not know how to go about this process.

Task
If Amina approaches you to guide her through the procedure, provide a write up showing required steps and
ICT tools that Amina should use to successfully submit her job application.

Item 5
The Government of Uganda wishes to boost all Saving and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCO) in
various districts by providing them with funds. A women’s SACCO wishes to apply for the funds and the group
does not want to miss out on this golden opportunity. They are required to access an online template, fill it with
the SACCO details before the deadline which is soon. The chairperson of the SACCO finds it challenging to
download, fill and submit the filled form to the district website since she lacks ICT skills.

Task
The Chairperson approaches you to guide her through the required procedure. Provide a write-up indicating the
necessary steps and ICTs to be used by the Chairperson.
