Sunscreen

1. Selecting the right Sunscreen can be a big task, we feel in real life like reading a foreign
language.

Let's start with basic knowledge we all should have.

So, first thing first.
UV (Ultraviolet) rays from the sun come in three different wavelengths. They are:
● UVA
● UVB
● UVC
UVA and UVB are the most dangerous as UVC fortunately, are stopped by the earth's
atmosphere.

UVA rays:
These rays deeply penetrate the skin, reaching beyond the dermis, the skin thickest
layer.
They cause aging and wrinkles.

UVB rays:
UVB rays are shorter and burn the surface of your skin. These initially lead to sunburns
and if not cured properly, they can cause skin cancer overtime.

It is very important that the Sunscreen you are using provides protection against both UVA and
UVB radiations.

Chemical vs physical Sunscreen

Let's take a closer look at the difference between these two types of Sunscreen.
1. Chemical sunscreen:
Chemical sunscreen is exactly what it sounds like.
A mixture of chemicals that come together to block UVA and UVB rays.
The ingredients create a chemical reaction that transforms UV rays into heat, which is then
released from the skin.

(There is a lots more, but this knowledge is sufficient to make you understand the function of
chemical Sunscreen)

2. Physical Sunscreen:
Physical Sunscreen is made from the natural compounds that sit on the surface of the skin.
They absorb and deflect sunlight so that UV rays don't penetrate ( or go inside the skin).
These natural ingredients act similar to aluminium foil or a mirror, keeping sunlight from
penetrating inside the skin.
Physical Sunscreen protects from the sun as soon as it is applied as it sticks to your skin.
Chemical Sunscreen takes about 20 minutes to begin to work.

Physical Sunscreen is gentle while chemical Sunscreen is Harsh.

Bottom line
No matter what age you are, what your skin type is, Physical Sunscreen is the new trend.
