Learning Activities
Activity 1
Direction: Answer the following questions and give what is ask.
1. Discuss the purpose and parts of the memo.
The purpose of a memo is usually found in the opening paragraph and includes:
the purpose of the memo, the context and problem, and the specific assignment or
task. Before indulging the reader with details and the context, give the reader a brief
overview of what the memo will be about.
A memorandum (memo) is used to communicate something of immediate
importance to people within a business or organization. A memo also can be sent to
people or firms that have close or long-standing relationships, such as vendors or
consultants. Like a business letter, a memo is a permanent record of your
communication
2. What parts of a letter should be included in a memo? Why?
A memo consists of two parts: the identifying information at the top, and the message
itself. At the top, identify for whom the memo has been written, who is sending it, the
subject, and the date. The subject line serves as the memo's title.
Although the parts of a memo may vary according to the complexity of the message,
most memos have these sections:
The header gives basic information about the recipient, sender, subject, and date.
The introduction explains the context. Since memos are straightforward and direct,
the introduction informs recipients about the purpose of the memo.
The body explains and elaborates on the purpose of the memo by giving details and
clarifications.
The conclusion wraps up the memo with a call to action or a final reminder or a
rationale.
Necessary attachments accompany the memo, particularly documents that support,
clarify, or require action on the part of the recipient, such as a signature.
Activity 2
Direction: Attach here a sample of a Memorandum with your chosen idea, use short bond paper
(minimum 100 words)
MEMORANDUM
To: All Staff
From: The Manager
Date: May 27, 2021
Subject: Inappropriate use of time on Google Doodle games
Coworkers,
It has come to my attention that many in the office have been spending time on the Google
home page microgames. This memo is a reminder to use your work hours for work.
According to a recent article, the estimated daily cost of people collectively playing these
games instead of working is over $120 million—which is calculated based on the daily
average increased time spent on the Google home page (36 seconds).
If these estimates are applied to our 600 office employees, this results in a nearly $700
weekly loss.
This is a conservative estimate considering the extensive discussions that occur about
beating the office's current high score. The extra cost quickly adds up.
Of course, we don't want you to view our organization as a place of drudgery and
draconian rules. I encourage a fun and competitive environment, and I recognize that we
certainly won't be profitable if you are unhappy or dissatisfied with your jobs. This is just a
reminder to be careful with your use of company time.
Thank you,
The Manager
