What Is the Eurovision Song Contest?

Every year, on a Saturday night in May, something special happens in

Europe. Millions of people turn on their TVs to watch their country sing in a
music contest. But this is not a sports game. There are no footballs or fast
cars. This is a contest to find the best pop song in Europe!

So What Is Eurovision?
Eurovision is a very big concert on TV. There are fireworks, amazing
dancing, colourful lights, and of course — pop songs! Each country sends
a singer or a music group to sing a song live. First, there is a semi-final,
and then 26 songs go to the big final on Saturday night.

Which Countries Are in Eurovision?

Most countries are in Europe — but not only! Countries like Israel and
Azerbaijan also take part. And because many people in Australia love
Eurovision, Australia has also joined the contest since 2015!

How Do We Choose the Winner?

After all the songs are finished, each country gives points to the best songs.
People can vote with their phones, and each country also has a jury (a group
of music experts). The jury and the people each give 50% of the votes. You
cannot vote for your own country. The song with the most points wins!
That country will then host the show next year.

Where Did Eurovision Come From?

Eurovision is not just a fun concert. It started for an important reason. After
World War II, Europe was very divided. In the 1950s, people wanted to make
something to bring Europe together and entertain everyone. So in 1956, the
first Eurovision happened in Switzerland. Only seven countries joined.
Today, millions of people watch it around the world.

What Are the Rules?

● Each song must be only 3 minutes long.

● There can be only 6 people on the stage (singers, dancers, or

musicians).

● Songs can be in any language, but most are in English.

Who Became Famous from Eurovision?

Some very famous singers started in Eurovision!

● In 1974, the group ABBA from Sweden won and became superstars
with songs like "Dancing Queen".

● In 1988, Céline Dion won for Switzerland. She later sang "My Heart
Will Go On" in the movie Titanic.

● In 2006, a rock band from Finland called Lordi won with crazy
costumes and loud music!

● Other popular songs from Eurovision include "Euphoria" (2012) and

"Heroes" (2015) — both from Sweden.
What Will Happen in the Future?
Every year, more people watch Eurovision — even outside of Europe. Now,
people in America, China, and Qatar are also watching. Maybe one day, the
whole world will join — and music will bring people together!

🎤 Eurovision 2025: Israel’s Song and Yuval Raphael (7th
Grade Level)
Israel will be in Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland!
This is the 47th time Israel is in the contest. This year, our
singer is Yuval Raphael. She won the show HaKochav
HaBa La'Eurovision 2025 with her strong song, "New Day
Will Rise."
Yuval’s song is special because it is about her real life. In
2023, Yuval was at the NOVA festival when a very bad
attack happened. She was there and survived. When she
sings "New day will rise" and "life will go on," it means a
lot. She used her pain to make a song.
One line in the song says, "Everyone cries, don’t cry
alone." This is her message: help your friends when they
feel sad. Another line says, "Darkness will fade, all the
pain will go by, but we will stay." This means that
Israelis are strong and stay together even when bad
things happen.
Many people who love Eurovision also love Yuval’s song.
They think she will go to the final — and maybe even win!
So, when Eurovision week comes, wear blue and white
and get ready to vote! Yuval is not only singing for herself
