Tamoxifen Nolvadex

Tamoxifen is prescribed to treat breast cancer by competing with estrogen for binding sites and reducing estrogen response. It is taken orally once daily as 20mg. Common side effects include nausea and hot flashes. Nursing implications focus on monitoring for liver and thyroid function changes, as well as hypercalcemia in patients with bone metastases. The patient should be instructed to take tamoxifen as directed and report any bone pain or other side effects to their healthcare provider.
