Q1. Write a paragraph in about 80 -100 words on the topic ‘A Journey by Train’.

A Journey by Train
During my last summer vacation, I went to Kolkata with my family. It was very special to me
because it was the first time I travelled by train. Our tickets were booked and we were to
travel by the Rajdhani Express. So, on a hot summer evening, we reached the New Delhi
railway station. Our train was waiting at one of the platforms. We boarded the train along
with our luggage. We looked for our berth and ultimately settled down. The train was half
occupied and the berth next to ours was occupied by a family of four that included two kinds
of my age.
I sat near the window and kept on wondering when the train would start. After some time I
could hear a whistle blow and the train finally moved. As the train picked up speed, the
landscape outside the window changed. The kids who were sitting on the berth next to mine
started talking to me and I shared my snacks with them. As we were enjoying ourselves, night
set in and everything outside the window became dark. Soon our dinner was served and we
got busy enjoying the delicious food. Then, my new friends and I started a conversation
again. When we felt sleepy, we went to our own berths and fell asleep.
Later, when I woke up in the morning the view outside the window had changed. It was
almost like a painting. I could see paddy fields, huts and beyond them the rising sun. I called
out to my friends Rohan and Suman. We all enjoyed the view. We were so happy.
Around 12 noon, our train reached the Howrah station and the journey came to an end. I bid
my new friends goodbye and we exchanged our phone numbers so that we could keep in
touch when we returned to Delhi. I really enjoyed the journey by train.

Q2. Write a paragraph in about 80 - 100 words on the topic ‘My Favourite Games’.

My Favourite Games
Games help to give us relief from homework, unit tests and project work. Games also enable
us to spend some time with our friends and family. Outdoor games like cricket, football and
basketball help in keeping us healthy, fit and fine.
My favourite outdoor game is cricket. Usually, on Sundays, I go out to the nearby park and
play cricket with my friends. I love to bat and have established a record of hitting more sixes
than any of my friends in the locality. I also like football which I usually play in the rainy
season when playing cricket becomes difficult.
Often on Sunday evenings, my little sister insists that I spend some time with her. On such
occasions, I play indoor games like ludo or chess with her. I love playing snakes and ladders
because I find it as exciting as cricket. This is so because until we reach the box marked 100,
we don’t know whether we are safe or not. When the dice is rolled, I wonder whether some
snake would eat me and I would come down or go up the ladder and move upward. Chess is
also an indoor game that I like but it needs much time and patience. So, my little sister does
not enjoy it much. At times, my mother plays chess with me. She says that playing chess
improves our concentration. All of us should play games that we like. We should remember
that ‘All work and no play make Jack a dull boy’.

Mr Fox licked his lips. Ms Stork went into her kitchen and came out with a long vessel with a
narrow neck. The stew smelled delicious.
‘Shall we start?’ asked Ms Stork. She thrust her long beak into the jar and took out pieces of
meat, eating her fill. Mr. Fox had to be content with the gravy that ran down the sides of the
vessel when Ms Stork dipped her beak into it. ‘Have you had enough? Isn’t the meat tasty?’
asked Ms Stork. ‘Oh yes, indeed it is!’ replied poor Mr. Fox. He could not find fault with her
because she had only done to him what he had done to her.
