Letter S- It is a sunny morning and Sam is
taking Samson, his dog out for a walk. They
walked towards the pond. When they got to
the pond, they spent some time watching
the fishes swim in the pond. After a while,
Samson goes off around the grass. He finds
a stick and brings it to Sam. He barks at Sam
and Sam throws the stick for Samson to
fetch. Samson looks around for the stick in
the grass. Suddenly Samson starts barking,
“Woof, woof, woof”. Sam skips over to see
what Samson has found. In front of Samson,
Sam saw a spotty snake hissing loudly. Sam
grabs Samson and the snake quickly slithers
away.
Letter T- Tom and Tim has been watching
Tennis match on the television. The match
started and they started hitting the ball to
each other like “t, t,t”. The people watching
the match turned their heads side to side,
watching the ball. Tom and Tim went
outside and pretends to be the players at
the match. They hit the tennis ball at each
other “t, t, t”.
Letter I- Zack has a white mouse. She lives
in a cage on a desk in Zack’s bedroom. Zack
forgot to close the cage door properly. The
mouse climbs out of the cage and starts
looking around the desk. Suddenly she
noticed a cat watching her. She squeaks “i,
i, i” and quickly runs across the desk. She
bumps into an ink bottle and knocks it over.
The top comes off and the ink spills all over
the desk and over the mouse. The mouse
keeps on running all around the desk and
around the room and prints all the ink in
the room. Seeing this Zack names the
mouse Inky the mouse.
Letter P- Paul likes to visit the zoo near his
home. His favorite animal there is polar
bear. Its Paul’s birthday soon and his mom
asked if he would like a teddy bear for his
present. Paul thinks about it and prefers a
polar bear. On Paul’s birthday, his friends
Peng, Pavlo and Pety came for the party.
They all played games and ate pizza,
popcorn and pineapple. Paul’s mother gets
the cake with purple icing. She has put
magic candles on it. Whenever Paul blows
out the candles it lightens up again. He
puffs out the candle “p p p p” but it keeps
on relighting. Everyone laughs and claps
and tries to blow out the candles “p p p”.
Letter N- Nicola and her grandfather went
for fishing one afternoon. Grandpa sets up
his fishing rod and they sit down to fish.
Nicola sits quietly besides her grandpa.
Suddenly they hear a very loud noise
“nnnnnn”. The plane was making this sound
in the sky. Grandpa does not like this sound
and shuts his ears with his hands. Nicola
looks at him and laughs. Nicola, likes the
noise and spreads her arms out on each
side and runs up and down pretending to
be a plane, “nnnnnn”.
Letter C/K- Candice and her family is on a
trip to Spain. They decided to go out in their
car for a drive to a castle. On the way they
pass by a donkey carrying a big bundle of
sticks. After seeing the castle they came to a
café to have some snacks. While eating
snacks they spotted a cat playing with her
kittens. As the clock struck, the Spanish
dancers came outside in the courtyard in
front of the café. The ladies had castanets
and were 3 wearing colorful dresses. They
were dancing and playing the castanets like
“ccccc”.
Letter E- Eric and his family had gone to stay
in their farm for holidays. First they bathe
the cows, feed the hens and collect the
eggs. They take the eggs in the kitchen for
breakfast. Eric’s mother Ellie, cracks open
the eggs by the side of the pan, “eee”. They
all eat fried eggs for breakfast.
Letter H- There was a hopping race in the
school. Henry, Hellen, Hanief and Haydon
are in the hopping race. Mr. Hearts starts
the race by blowing the whistle. Henry,
Hellen, Hanief and Haydon hop as fast as
they could. It was a hot day and hopping is
a hard work. Hellen is huffing by the time
she finished like “hhhhh”. Miss Hopkins
gives them juice to drink after the race is
over.
Letter R- Robert’s family got a new puppy
and they named him Rover. Robert goes to
his bedroom with rover and gets his roller
skates. Rover was exploring the room.
Suddenly, Robert hears the sound, “rrrrr!”
The puppy has found the blanket and is
shaking from side to side. Robert gets hold
of the blanket and tries to pull it away but
rover holds it tight like “rrrrrr”. The blanket
rips and “OH DEAR” goes Robert.
Letter M- Marwin had called his friends
Milly and Molly for dinner. They were
playing out when they got a call for dinner.
They came in, washed their hands and sat
down for dinner. “I am hungry” says Marvin
rubbing his tummy like “mmmmm”. I hope
its spaghetti and meat balls” “I hope its hot
dogs” said molly. Marvins mother came in
carrying their meal. “Lamb and peas” said
the children, “mmmmmm.”
Letter D- Dan is tidying his cupboard. He
pulls out few toys to play for a while. “Dan
have you finished?” asked his dad. “Not yet
dad” said Dan. Next he finds marbles and a
dice and starts playing with it for a while,
then he hears his dad again. “Dan have you
finished yet?” “Not yet dad” says Dan and
goes back to his cupboard. At the back of
the cupboard he sees his old red and blue
drum. He picks it up and marches up and
down banging the drum, “ddd!”
Letter G- Gail is staying with her
grandmother who has a big garden and has
animals. When they were out, Gail saw a
frog next to water bucket. When they went
in, Gail went to the bathroom for a wash.
Gail put the plug in, filled the basin and
washed her hands and face with water, but
when she pulled the plug out, the water did
not go away. Her grandmother came to
have a look. “Oh dear, the sink must be
blocked” and she phoned the plumber.
When the plumber came, he unblocked the
basin and the water went down gurgling,
“ggggg.”
Letter O- Oliver and Holly have moved to a
new house. The light switch is near the bed
so they can turn lights on and off
themselves when they are in bed. One
night, Holly curls up with Oscar, her toy
rabbit and Oliver was reading a book. “You
can turn off the lights when you finish
reading” says Oliver’s dad. After reading,
Oliver leans over the light switch and turns
it off. Off it goes he says. Then he switches
on and says 0… on it goes. He turns it on
and off, saying o… on it goes, o…. off it goes,
o….. On it goes. Then he hears his dad’s
voice, “Stop turning lights on and off Oliver.
You will break it. Turn off and go to sleep.”
Oliver turns the light off and goes to sleep.
Letter U- Uncle Bud often comes to visit his
nephew and niece, Anna and Ulric. Today
he has bought a big umbrella. Anna’s
Umbrella is spotty and Ulric’s umbrella has
red and white stripes. The family decided to
go for a walk. Though it was sunny, Anna
and Ulric insisted to carry their umbrellas.
Everyone laughs but uncle bud said that he
will also take his umbrella. After a while
they notice that there are black clouds in
the sky. Soon it started raining. Uncle bud,
Anna and Ulric put up their umbrellas
shouting, u u up umbrellas! They have a
lovely time splashing in the puddles and
dancing under umbrellas.
Letter L- It is Lucas birthday and has a
birthday party. Lucas got many gifts from
his friends. They all played party games till
food was set. They had lettuce sandwiches,
cake and lemonade to drink. Most
importantly they had a big birthday cake.
Lucas and his friends played blind man’s
buff and pin the donkey’s tail and gets lime
lollypop as a prize. All of them licks their
lollypops like “llllll.”
Letter F- Freda, Fred and Felix are at the
beach. Freda has a new sun hat and a
bucket. Fred has a large inflatable fish to
float on. They leave the fish on sand to dry.
They started building a castle and
decorated it with flags and shells. Fred puts
on the slippers and goes for a swim.
Suddenly they notice the inflatable fish
getting smaller as its plug had come out and
air was escaping with the sound “ffffff.”
Letter B- Granny is looking after Bill and his
baby brother Ban. They go to the park.
Granny stops to watch the boat in the lake,
and listen to the band playing. She finds a
bench to sit down on and soon she and
baby ben are relaxing in the sun. Bill sees
his friend, Rob, who has a bat and a ball.
They find some more of their friends and
have a game of baseball. Bill throws the ball
for Ben. As the bat hits the ball, it goes B.
Then it is Bettys turn. She bashes the ball as
hard as she can. It just misses granny,
bounces and hits the bench, Granny and
baby ben stood up. “I think I better keep a
distance from the baseball,” says granny as
she pushes baby ben along the path at the
side of the boating lake.
Letter AI- Ainsly has been having trouble
with his ears. Whenever his mother speaks
to him, he puts his hand on his ears and
says, “ai”? His mother took him to the
doctor to have his ear checked. In the
waiting room there is a box of toys. Ainsly
plays with a whale and a train. After a while
doctor comes and calls Ainsly. After
checking his ears, doctor said, “You have a
lot of wax in your ears. That’s why you have
trouble in hearing.” Then doctor put ear
drops in his ears and all his pain in his ears
disappeared.
Letter J- Jane likes Jelly. Her mother
promised her to make some jelly for her
this afternoon. When Jane came home from
school she had bread and jam and some
juice. Mother shows Jane the jelly she
made. “Wow” said Jane. ‘It is big, red in
color and four layers.” As she carries it to
the table it wobbles and wobbles. Jane
pretends to wobble just like it and says jelly
on the plate, jelly on the plate, j j j jelly on
the plate.
Letter OA- An angry goat lives on the field at
the side of the road. He gets very angry
when any other animals comes into his
field. Mona and her brother often walk pass
the field and talk to the goat. Mona and her
brother are going to the park for picnic and
to sail the boat. As they were passing by,
they saw the goat angry besides the oak
tree. Up in the tree are two robins and a
squirrel. The robins have been flying down
and stealing oaks from the goat. The goat
shakes the tree trunk as hard as he can.
Crash! The tree fall on top of the goat.
“Oh!” says Mona and her brother. They run
to get the farmer, who comes to rescue the
goat.
Letter IE- Clive has been invited to a party.
Clive’s dad is a sailor in the navy and he has
given Clive a hat from his ship. Clive wants
to dress up as a sailor like his dad and wear
the hat to the party. His mother makes him
the sailors outfit. Just before the party
Clive’s dad comes home on leave. Clive
insists on wearing his new outfit to meet
him off the ship. He waves and waves when
he sees his dad and runs up and gives him a
big hug. Dad admires his outfit and says, “If
you are a sailor, you will have to learn how
to salute and say,”ie, ie” When they get
home, he shows Clive how to salute. Clive
has a go in front of a mirror, saluting and
saying, ie ie.
Letter EE/OR- An old Donkey and some
sheep live next to a small corn field. Norah
and Jakeen like to go and talk to the
donkey. The donkey is always very pleased
to see them. When he sees them coming,
he brays, “ee or!” and waggles his ears up
and down in greeting. One august morning,
the children go for a walk to see the
donkey; “ee or” he calls out, happily. They
give the donkey a carrot. “The carrot comes
from my garden,” says Norah. As they talk
to the donkey large raindrops begin to fall.
Behind the children is an enormous rain
cloud. The children run off home waving to
the donkey.
Letter Z- Zara is sitting outside on the grass
one sunny morning. She is playing with her
toy zebra. She hears a loud “zzzzzzz” sound.
She looks around and sees a big bee,
buzzing around the flowers. It is collecting
pollen to be made into honey, back at the
hive. She watches the bee as it buzzes from
flower to flower, landing on each one and
collecting the pollen. Zara stands up and
runs around saying, “zzzzzzzz” She stops by
a gazinia, bends down and pretends to
collect the pollen from the flower. Then,
“zzzzzz” she buzzes and off she goes to the
next flower.
Letter W- The west wind and the sun have
an argument about who is the strongest.
The west wind says to the sun, “you see
that man down there? I bet I can blow so
hard that his coat will come off.” The wind
blows and blows, “wwwwww,” but the man
hangs on to his coat. The harder the wind
blows the more the man holds on to his
coat. “my turn! Let me try,” says the sun.
The sun shines and shines. It gets warmer
and warmer, and hotter and hotter. The
man takes off his coat. “I win,” smiles the
sun, and the west wind goes off.
“wwwwww!”
Letter NG- It is Saturday afternoon and bing
has come to play at marks house. They start
by having a game of ping-pong. Then they
play with the racing car. “lets see what’s on
TV,” says mark, “there might be some
motor racing.” They put on the TV. “Look at
that man!” says bing. “He is a weight lifter,”
says mark. They watch the man as he lifts
some huge weights. The man grunts “ng ng
ng ng!”. “He must be strong,” says bing.
“Lets be weight lifters,” says mark. They
used a broom and a mop as weights; “ng ng
ng ng” they go as they pretend to lift the
heavy weights.
Letter V- One day during the summer, uncle
Vick arrives at Zack and Jess’s house.
“Would you like to come and help me
today?” he asks. “yes please” they reply.
“Come on, then, we have a lot to do.” Says
uncle Vick. They drive off to the station in
his van, “vvvvvvvvv!” I need to collect an
order from Vales fruit and vegetables.” Says
uncle Vick. Uncle Vicks collects the order
and vrooooom they are off again. They
deliver the vegetables to old Mrs Vernon.
They are busy all day driving around,
“vvvvvvvvv!” Eventually it is time for them
to go home. “Good bye,” called Zack and
Jess, as they wave to uncle Vick.
Letter OO/OO- Oona is going to visit her
aunt Ivy. Oona likes to visit her because she
has lots of interesting things and a large
friendly cat called noodle. The thing Oona
likes best is aunts cuckoo clock. On the
hour, the cuckoo pops out from the little
wooden door at the top calling, oo, oo, oo.
Noodle and Oona like to wait underneath
the clock, knowing that the cuckoo will
come out soon. As the cuckoo goes in and
out, Oona pretends to be the cuckoo and
says oo, oo, oo.
Letter Y- It is lunch time, Yasmin, Ron and
Yamal are having something to eat. Yamal
eats his sandwiches quickly so that he can
play with his yoyo. Yasmin’s mom has given
her some yogurt, “that looks nice”. “Yes, it
is.” Says Yasmin. “I chose it when we went
shopping on Saturday. It’s a banana yogurt.
I love yellow.” “Can I try some?” asked Ron.
“Yes”, says Yasmin. “That’s nice,” says Ron,
“A yummy, yellow yogurt!”
Letter X- Max and Tia are playing. They are
pretending to be a spaceman. Max, the
alien, chases Tia, the astronaut up a tree.
Tia falls out of the tree and breaks her arm.
Her dad takes her and max to hospital,
where tia has an xray. Tia has to keep her
arm very still while they take the xray, “ks,
ks, ks,ks. The nurse plasters her arm so that
she cannot move it and the bones will mend
properly.
Letter CH- The children in Charlie’s class are
studying transport. Their teacher has
arranged an outing to a transport museum.
In the afternoon, the children get to ride on
a steam train. They are very excited. They
all climb into the carriage. The train starts
chugging “ch ch ch ch.” The train goes
faster, “ ch ch ch ch ch.” Then steam comes
out from the funnel, and the whistle blows
“choo choo!” The next day at school, they
all pretend to be trains going, “ ch ch ch ch”
The chuff around pretending to stop at lots
of different places so that the passengers
can get on and off.
Letter SH- Mrs Shaw has just had a baby.
The baby is called Shannon. Sam is her elder
brother. He thinks she is alright, but she
cries a lot. While his mother tries to get
Shannon to sleep, Sam goes and plays with
his toys. It makes a very loud sound when
the drawer opens. “shshshshshshsh”,
whispers Mrs Shaw, putting her fingers on
her lips, “ Shannon is nearly asleep. Let sgo
downstairs for a while.” “Ok” says Sam
adding, “shshshshshsh” as the tip toe
quietly from the room.
Letter TH- Matthew and Nathan have gone
to the circus. The ringmaster introduces the
act. First there is a juggler, throwing three
rings high into the air. Then two naughty
clowns throw water at the ringmaster. One
clown who is thin is very rude and sticks his
tongue out at the ringmaster but only a
little way. “th” he goes. The other clown
who is much bigger is very rude and sticks
his tongue right out, “ththth” he goes. Then
the clowns chase each other and tickle with
the feathers. Everyone laughs at them.
Letter QU- Quentin enjoys going to the park
with his family. They always carry stale
bread to feed the ducks and quentin also
gives some to the squirrels. When they see
the bag of bread, squirrels gather quickly.
The duck also sees the bread and rushes to
the side of the pond, quacking loudly, “qu
qu qu” as they open and close their beaks.
Letter OU- Emily has gone to stay at her
grandmother house. Emily’s grandmother
does a lot of sewing. Emily asked if she
could do some sewing too. Grandmother
get out a piece of cloth from her sewing
basket. Grandmother helps Emily to thread
the needle. She sits down on the couch and
does a few stitches. Then as she pushes the
needle through, she pricks her thumb. She
shouts “ou ou!” That hurt. “You have to be
careful Emily. Says her grandmother. By the
end of her visit, Emily has done lot of
sewing. She makes a mat as a present for
her parents.
Letter OI- Roy’s dad has a little boat called
sailor boy. Sometimes in the summer Roy is
allowed to join his dad and help him. One
day, Roy, his dad and uncle martin are
taking the boat out. They pack all the things
and set off. They are enjoying themselves,
when BANG! There is a loud noise as they
hit something in the water, it is an oil drum.
“Oh dear!” says dad. “Its made a hole”. Just
then, they see a ship, steaming along.
“Quick” says dad, pointing at the ship. “WE
WILL SHOUT FOR HELP” “ oi oi ship ahoy” The
sailors from the ship hear the voices and
yell back, “ oi ship ahoy, are you in
trouble?” “Yes, we are sinking. Help!” they
cry. The sailors help Roy and his dad get
aboard back to port.
Letter UE- It is Samuel’s birthday, and he is
having a party. First, Samuel and his friends
play musical chairs. After that, magician
performs a magic show: he is very amusing.
He uses a magic wand and he has a big
magic box with a unicorn on the side. He
does a few card tricks, and then asks for
someone to come and help him. “You!” he
says, pointing at Samuel, “you are the
birthday boy,” he continues, “will you come
and help me?” “Me?” asked Samuel. “You!”
shouted children. Samuel helps the
magician do a special trick. He has to wave
the magic wand and say ue ue ue right on
cue, a rabbit pops out from under the
magicians table! After the magic show, they
all go outside and have a barbeque.
Letter ER- Berts teacher, mr bird, has read
the ginger bread man to the class. When he
gets home, Bert asks if he can make some
ginger bread for supper. First, he and his
sister, Jennifer, helped to weigh the butter,
sugar, flour, eggs and ground ginger. They
put the ingredients in a bowl and stirred.
“er er er er” goes the mixture. Both rolled
their hands over and over, pretending to be
the mixture. “er er er” they go. Next the roll
out the mixture, cut it ginger bread shapes
and bake them in the oven. When they are
cooked and cooled they decorate them with
frosting and currents. Birt makes a special
one to take to school for his teacher.
Letter AR- Barbara has not been feeling
well. She has a sore throat and it is hard for
her to talk. Her mom takes her to see the
doctor. It is not very far in the car. She
makes sure Barbara wears a warm scarf.
The doctor starts by asking her to open her
mouth and say ah. Ah says Barbara. The
doctor looks into her mouth. “Ah, you have
a throat infection,” he says. He gives her
some medicines, and soon the sore throat is
gone. Now she is able to go and play in the
park with all her friends.
