What is “6 Thinking Hats”?
          • The 6 thinking hats is a book written by
            Edward Charles Francis Publius de
            Bono (19 May 1933 – 9 June 2021)
          • He was a Maltese physician,
            psychologist, author, inventor and
            broadcaster
          • He brought the concept of “lateral
            thinking” by the 6 thinking hats and
            various other books based on the same.
          • He believed in teaching “thinking” as a
            concept that should be taught in schools.

Blue Hat- The Manager
This hat is the process control plan
where the leader or facilitator (ex:
teacher) manage all the other
participants of the group (ex: students).
This hat can be used to drive the
thinking process to better routes.
For example, the facilitators can direct
the discussion to the green hat route if
there are no ideas.
White Hat- The Data Collector
• Represents facts and information about
  the topic of discussion
• Sharing of info about the issue
• Taking notes
• Questions in this part of discussion-
         What is the available info?
          What are the facts we have?
Yellow Hat- The Optimistic
• Considers the positive sides of the
  discussion
• Points out the advantages
• Recommends the benefits of a proposed
  solution or mind-set.
• Questions in this part-
          “what are the advantages of
applying the solution?”
           “why do you think it is
workable?”
Black hat- the Pessimist
• Puts forward the cons of the given
  situation
• Suggest cautious and defensive steps
• Brings focus on why some solutions
  might not work with logical reasoning.
• Questions in this part-
   “What are the risks?”
   “Why is the suggestion not working?”
Red Hat- The Empath
• Focuses on the feelings and humanistic side
  of the problem
• Brings forward the different emotional
  responses such as love, hate, like , dislike.
• Questions in this part-
     “What do you feel about the suggestion?”
      “What is your gut reaction?”
Green Hat- The Creative One
• Represents the creative side of the discussion
• Comes up with creative and innovative ideas
  and solutions
• Sometimes encourages brainstorming session
  and various other methods to elevate the
  discussion
Advantages of using the 6 thinking hats in classroom
• Ensure participation of maximum number of students
• Helps the students to think critically in various directions
• Develop innovative thinking
• By categorizing the discussion according to the point of view students feel
  more in power to choose their comfort zone in the discussion
• Makes discussion fun with the role play
