urban sustainable development
Sara Caramaschi (2014), said that markets have existed for millennia as important parts of
cities, towns and villages, they have been important to engines for the growth, while also
providing sustainable solutions to accommodate this growth. Also he said considering global
trends such as climate change and resource scarcity, a major challenge for future cities will
be to reduce urban footprints. Moreover, cities have to become or remain liveable for their
inhabitants and offer social and economic opportunities.

LOCAL
PUBLIC MARKET REDEVELOPMENT
Maylene Padillio (2022), said that Public markets are significantly vital to the Filipino's social and
public spaces life. It is a trade center where Filipinos market and sell products and has been for
different eras. Palengke, or public Market, is a significant avenue for empowering the agricultural
sector, farmers, consumers, vendors, and the community. The majority of public markets are said to
have negative comments from users, such as "unsanitary, stinky, messy, crowded and lacks in
natural lighting," affecting the vitality of the place. Bayombong, a first-class municipality in Nueva
Vizcaya, has an underutilized public market. It is a growing community that continuously works to
gain economic standing by uplifting local shops. As recognized and identified, the public market is a
hub for most local entrepreneurs; thus, revitalization will be a substantial benefit for the majority's
development standpoint, which would then adheres to the public's ambition.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
This study focuses on the Transformation of Tarlac City’s Public Market through effective space
planning to promote social sustainability and inclusivity. It specifically examines the current spatial
layout, vendor arrangements, accessibility, safety, and communal spaces within the market. The
study aims to develop design recommendations that align with the principles of inclusive urban
design and social sustainability. Key stakeholders such as market vendors and customers will be
considered in surveys, interviews and for observation.
The research is limited to the main public market of Tarlac City and does not include satellite
markets or informal vending areas located outside the designated market zone. This study
emphasizes physical and spatial factors affecting social interaction and equitable access, rather than
economic or political issues.
Other Limitations:
1.Time and resource constraints: Due to the limited time and available resources, the research may
not fully cover all dimensions of public market operation and redevelopment.
2. Data Accessibility: Some data related to local government planning documents or long-term
infrastructure plans may not be available to the researcher.
3. Stake Holders Representation: Market Vendors and Customer/consumers.
4. Implementation Barriers: The study provides design recommendations but does not guarantee the
implementation of proposed plans, as actual development depends on government approval,
funding and political will.
