INTRODUCTION

This study explores how the gamified strategy "Key-and-


Flag Racing" can improve students' comprehension of
literature, particularly in understanding complex elements
like imagery. Traditional lecture-based methods often lead
to disengagement and low performance due to the symbolic
and complex nature of literary texts. This research aims to
assess the strategy’s impact on student performance and
perception, offering a more engaging and effective approach
to teaching literature by addressing both motivation and
comprehension challenges.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the students’ performance in literary comprehension after
the implementation of the gamified Key-And-Flag Racing strategy?
2. What are the students’ perceptions on how the gamified Key-And-
Flag Racing affects their performance in literary comprehension,
specifically in the following areas:
2.1 Identify the imagery present in each stanza
2.2 Analyze the meaning of the imagery found

CONCLUSIONS
The study revealed that students demonstrated an acceptable level of
performance in literary comprehension after participating in the Key-and-
Flag Racing strategy. This suggests that the activity was effective in
helping learners engage with and understand the poem.

Students perceived the strategy as very effective in identifying imagery and


analyzing its meaning. The collaborative nature, guided questions, and
competitive format contributed to deeper comprehension.

A strong and significant relationship was found between students’


performance and their perception of the strategy. This suggests that
students who viewed the activity as effective were also more likely to
perform better in literary comprehension tasks.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Teachers are encouraged to enhance the Key-and-Flag
Racing strategy by replacing the fixed 10-point scoring
system with a rubric to better assess the quality of
students’ responses, especially for subjective
questions. Clear and detailed instructions should be
provided before the activity, and each group member
should be given a chance to participate. Groups must
also be formed with a manageable number of members,
and group leaders should be assigned to maintain
focus and guide discussion.

RECOMMENDATIONS
The school is advised to support the activity by
ensuring that all necessary materials, both
technological and traditional, are complete and
functional.
Future researchers are encouraged to investigate the
long-term impact of gamified strategies on students’
academic performance and motivation across different
subjects. They may also consider exploring how
learning styles and technological tools influence
student participation and the effectiveness of game-
based learning in various educational settings.
