A new organization which wants to operate is now investing in buying IT Equipment.

i. What should be this company’s core principle for Information Security?

iv. What are the tangible cost and intangible cost of such investment?

i. Elaborate why companies embark on Data Warehousing. [5 marks]

ii. What are the major elements of Data Mining? [5 marks]

iii. Middleware help the company to have a better integration of data among
different platforms. Do you agree? [5 marks]

iv. Explain the difference between Relational Database and OLAP? [10 marks]

Question 3

You are the Manager of a Chain of Shops. Management wants to implement a system to
support the financial function of the organisation.

i. What are the Change Management problems that could be encountered and how
would you ensure a tactical implementation step for the Management of Change
that is required during the introduction of the new system?

ii. What are the useful skills for the change agent to have at this point in the process
and what is the work that the Project Team should plan to achieve this
implementation? [10 marks]

iii. What should be the strategic roles of IT? [5 marks]

Question 4

One of the problems with Software Quality is that "everyone feels they understand it."

i. Explain what are the factors required for Software Quality. [5 marks]

ii. Describe what is an Executive Information System? How can a manager benefit
from such a System and what are its drawbacks? [10 marks]

A Decision Support System remains a tool that can provide firms with a
sustainable competitive advantage and in many industries a robust Decision
Support System is the rule rather than the exception.

iii. What are the main types of Decision Support Systems? [5 marks]

iv. How does different Management Levels use DSS and what are the Information
requirements? [5 marks]

Question 5

The use of Information Technology in business is increasing exponentially as more and


more business are becoming aware of its strategic advantages. To achieve real
competitive advantage through the use of IT requires strategic planning, well-thought
re-engineering of business process and changes in Organisational culture.

i. Explain Porter’s competitive five forces with regards to Strategic advantage.

ii. Explain the disadvantages of business process re-engineering. [5 marks]

iii. Management has heard about Outsourcing and has asked you to explain what its
advantages are? [5 marks]

Question 6

You are appointed as an IT Manager for a Group of Supermarkets. Looking at the


current IT infrastructure you see that you have one Database in the Main Supermarket
whereby data for the other Supermarkets are being sent at the main Supermarket in
Hard Copies and thus Data Entry is done in batches with several days upon reception.
This is causing a lot of delays in the proper operations of the Main Supermarket. This
results in a lot paper work going to the Main Supermarket and storage of the paper has
become an issue due to limited space.

Besides, if someone wants to look for product records this would take a lot of time for
the Operator to retrieve this and eventually print the requested information and send
back to the requested Supermarket.

How can you propose a System to improve this situation? [20 marks]

Outline the possible disadvantage of such system. [5 marks]
