an 11.5% increase from the previous year. This
significant trade development underscores China’s
substantial presence in India’s import market. India’s
import landscape is diversified, with Russia and the
UAE also featuring among key import sources.

IPS officer from the Bihar cadre, will serve in this key
role until July 31, 2026. Prior to this appointment, he
held the position of Additional Secretary in the Home
Affairs Ministry and served as Officer on Special Duty.

• Uttarakhand Madrasa Board has recently planned to
make Sanskrit a compulsory subject in 416 madrasas
across the state. The board is preparing to sign a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state’s
Sanskrit department. Let us tell you that at present,
Arabic is taught in more than 100 madrasas.

Abdullah was sworn in as the new chief minister of
Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday (October 16, 2024)
during a swearing-in ceremony in Srinagar. On this
occasion, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, a prominent
face from the Jammu region, was appointed as Deputy
Chief Minister (DCM). The function was organised
under the chairmanship of Jammu and Kashmir
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

• India will be represented by External Affairs Minister S.


Jaishankar at the 23rd SCO Heads of Government
Meeting to be held in Islamabad on 16 October 2024.

undermining state rights. This resolution was
supported unanimously by the assembly, led by Chief

Space organization has launched the Europa Clipper
Mission to explore Jupiter’s moon
• NASA launched the Europa Clipper spacecraft to
explore Jupiter’s moon, Europa, and its potential to
sustain life. The spacecraft will travel 3 billion
kilometers in a nearly 10-year mission. Europa is
believed to have a deep ocean, possibly 120 km
beneath its icy surface. In 2013, Hubble detected
geysers on Europa, suggesting thermal vents that
could support life. The mission aims to study these
vents for signs of life. Europa Clipper is NASA’s
India recently sign a $3.5 billion drone deal

• The Indian Defence Ministry has recently signed a $3.5


billion deal with the USA for 31 MQ-9B drones (16 Sky
Guardian and 15 Sea Guardian) to enhance defence
capabilities. The deal includes 15 drones for the Indian
Navy and eight each for the Army and Air Force.

improvement of OBCs, SCs, STs, and other weaker

Global Hunger Index, falling under the “serious”
hunger category with a GHI score of 27.3. This ranking
indicates that 13.7% of India’s population is
