PRODUCT BULLETIN
ID-PLUG
ID-PLUG is a surface-mixed pump able plugging material, formulated to provide a rigid crosslinked gel structure
ID-PLUG contain sized particles of borate-containing minerals and special polymers which provide formulating
flexibility to meet various formulation requirement in lost-circulation applications. ID-PLUG EX a salt/magnesia
compound serves as a crosslink catalyst when mixed with ID-PLUG. Also calcium chloride may be used as a
secondary acceleration in cold water application, or to increase rigidity of the plug. The polymers in the base
product add viscosity and filtration control and are cross linked by the borate anion in the sparingly water-
soluble borate. The catalyst initiate the crosslink reaction by raising the pH and salinity of the fresh water
mixture. The reaction is accelerated by the normally higher temperature in the wellbore.
Typical Physical Properties
Physical appearance Tan to white powder
Specific gravity 2.0 (g/ml)
pH (1% solution) 7-8
Application
ID-PLUG is a unique system whose main application is the control of lost circulation. The combination of ID-
PLUG and ID-PLUG EX satisfies the requirements for the majority of extreme lost circulation situations where
anything where anything form induced factures to total losses are experienced. The final consistency of the ID-
PLUG also allow it to be easily drilled after the chemical setting reaction has been completed. Calcium chloride
may also be added as a secondary accelerator to modify the ID-PLUG shear strength for lost circulation pill,
open hole cement retainer, pre-cement pad, profile modification, formation consolidating gel. The base
density for 100lb/bbl of ID-PLUG is 10.1 lb/gal but weight up to 17.0 lb/gal can be achieved with the addition
of barite or there inert weighting material.
Advantages
• Provides excellent fluid loss control.
• Seals high permeability and fractured formation.
• Exhibits high shear strength.
• Bonds tightly to the formation
Toxicity and Handling
Handle as an industrial chemical, wearing protective equipment and observing the precautions as described in
the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
Packing and Storage
ID-PLUG is packaged in a 25 kg (55 lb), multi-wall, and paper sacks.
Store at moderate temperature in a dry, well-ventilated area.
