A Detailed Lesson Plan

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:

a. Differentiate fiction from nonfiction by identifying their key characteristics


and purposes;

b. Perform an interactive sorting activity to the given pictures if it is fiction or


nonfiction; and

c. Show appreciation for both genres by reflecting on personal reading


preferences and acknowledging their importance.

us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into

Literature.

“Yes, that’s right, thank you. And what is


Literature?”
Student #3: Literature refers to written or
spoken works that express ideas, emotions,
and stories in creative and meaningful ways. It
includes different forms such as novels,
poetry, drama, essays, and folklore. Literature
serves as a mirror to human experiences,
cultures, and societies, offering both
entertainment and insight.

“Very good, and why is Literature


important?”
Student #4: Literature keeps traditions,
beliefs, and historical events alive.
“And give one example of a literature.” Student #5: "Noli Me Tangere" by Jose Rizal.

“Alright. I will open a box where it contains


statements that is either fake or a fact. Anyone
from the class can guess the statement if it is a
fake or fact, the student with most points will
be the winner. Understood?”
“Yes, Ma’am!”
“Once upon a time, in a hidden valley deep in
the mountains of Luzon, a young boy
discovered a golden carabao that whispered
the secrets of the land.”
Student #1: “Fake!”
“Very good! One point for you. Next, ages
ago, a magical balete tree in the heart of
Mindanao held the stories of every person
who had ever walked its roots, waiting for the
right traveler to listen.”

student 2: “Fake!”
“Very well, next. The jeepney, a popular
mode of transportation, originated from
repurposed U.S. military jeeps after World
War II.”
Student 3: “Facts!”
“Excellent! How about, the country has one of
the longest Christmas seasons, starting as
early as September.”
Student 4: “Facts!”

“Nice one! And lastly, in a time long past, a


diwata granted a fisherman the ability to
speak to the waves, and with their guidance,
he uncovered a lost kingdom beneath the sea.”

“Great job! Congratulations to our winner!
Today, our topic is somehow related to our
activity.”

“So, our topic for today, are two of the


different genres of literature. But first, student
#8, kindly read our objectives for today.”
Student #8: “At the end of the discussion, the
students should be able to:

a. Differentiate fiction from nonfiction by


identifying their key characteristics and
purposes;

b. Perform an interactive sorting activity to


the given text if it is fiction or nonfiction; and

c. Show appreciation for both genres by


reflecting on personal reading preferences and
acknowledging their importance.”

“Thank you. At the end of our discussion,


hopefully we are able to achieve these
objectives. So, what are the first two genres of
literature?”
Student #9: “Fiction and Nonfiction, Sir.”

“Fiction and Nonfiction, are you familiar with


these genres? Because most of the books we
read are identifiable by fiction and
nonfiction.”
“No, Sir.”

“Alright, now let us first define what is


Fiction, everybody.”
“Fiction is a literary genre that consists of
stories created from the imagination rather
than based strictly on real events. It can
include novels, short stories, plays, and even
films. While some fiction may be inspired by
true experiences or historical events, the

characters, settings, and plotlines are often


invented by the writer.”
“Alright, fiction is a literary genre that came
from the imagination of the author. In short,
this are all being invented by the writer
somehow inspired from real life historical
events. Now, can you give me an example?”
Student #10: Noli Me Tangere, Sir!

“Very well! Noli Me Tangere is a book by Dr.


Jose Rizal, that portrays the oppression of the
Spanish Government to the Philippines.
Through his book, he described what is
happening in that time and made it into a

“Ang Ibong Adarna.”

“Why do you think that Ibong Adarna is a


Fiction?”
Student #11: “Ibong Adarna is considered as a
fiction because it is a legendary epic that
features fantastical elements, such as a
magical bird with healing powers which is
under the fantasy genre because there is no
such thing exist in real life.”

“Very good! Another example is the famous


book of JK Rowling, Harry Potter the Series.
Can you tell me why it is considered as
Fiction?”
Student #12: “Harry Potter Series contains a
lot of fantastical scenarios where there are
broomstick flying around and also wand that
has power which is considered as a fantasy
also.”

“Nice explanation, Student #12. Lastly, how Student #13: “The tragic story of Romeo and
about Romeo & Juliet?” Juliet is a fictional story of William
Shakespeare, where there are scenes and
events and characters that are not based on
real or does not exist.”

“Yes, Sir!”
“Good job! Do you understand now the
Fiction, class?”

“None, Sir.”

“Any questions or clarifications?”

“If none, let us proceed to the Nonfiction. “Nonfiction is a literary and media category
Kindly read what is a nonfiction?” that presents factual information about the real
world. Nonfiction is rooted in truth, covering
real events, people, and concepts. It
encompasses various forms, including
biographies, autobiographies, essays,
journalism, documentaries, and academic
writings.”

“Thank you. When we say Nonfiction, it is the


vice versa of Fiction. Where fiction deals with
imagination or non-existent things or
scenarios, nonfiction deals with the truth,
facts, and real-life events. Now, can you Student #14: “Biographies, autobiographies,

“Very good! Even the news articles you read


online is a nonfiction, everything that has
basis. Nonfiction serves as a tool for learning
and expanding perspectives. One example is

deep insights into his life and contributions to
Philippine history. Another is the collection of “Yes, Ma’am.”
essays, or anything that can be a credible
source that happened in real life. Clear?”

biographies and documentaries can teach me
