TEENAGE PREGNANCY

The increasing number of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines is the one of the issues is

now facing. The girl, her child, her parents and relatives, as well as the national society, are all

victims of teenage pregnancy. The rising number of teenage pregnancies in the Philippines as a

result of the youths acceptance of premarital sex should be stopped since it leads to pregnant

women dropping out of school, fear owning to a lack of understanding and a society with over

increasing population growth rate. Today, teenage pregnancy is a big concern and a social

problem that affects the entire society. Teenage Pregnancy is described as a teenage girl

becoming pregnant between the ages of 13 to 19. In ordinary speech , the term mainly refers to

the girls who fall pregnant before reaching legal maturity, which varies by country. Teenage

pregnancy has been linked to detrimental consequences for teen parents, their children, and

society. Teenage pregnancy has impact on not just the teenager, but also the kid, the families

involved, healthcare professionals, educators and government officials as they strive to

accommodate and cope with challenges that come with it.

Teenage pregnancy is one of the major factors that affects population growth in the

Philippines. It is considered as one of the major problems of the government is facing today.

According to the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) records that the teenage pregnancy

cases up to 70 percent over 10 years only. Also, according to the survey of United Nations
Population Found 2023, got highest rank among the countries of the Association of Southeast

Asian Nations (ASEAN) who has highest rate of teenage pregnancy. The increasing number of

teenage pregnancy could derail the country’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) claimed

by United Nation Population Fund Agency(UNPFA) representative Ugochi Daniels.

According to the Doctors teenage pregnancy lack of parental guidance one the main

reasons because most people evade their children from talking about sex. In some cases, they

provide false information regarding sex. And discourage their children to participate in any

informative discussion about sex. Some teenage mothers are not well educated about sex before

getting pregnant and thus lead lack of communication between the parents and the children. Also

some adolescent sexual behavior among the adolescents, peer pressure is a major factor that

encourages the teenage boys and girls to indulge in sexual activities. Early dating as early of 13

years of age, is another factor that contributes to teen pregnancy. This is also another major

factors that contributes to pregnancy among teenagers. Those girls who date older are more

likely become pregnant before they attain womanhood. Rape, sexual exploitations etc. also takes

place that leads to unwanted pregnancy among teenage girls. These alarming cases caught the

attention of some lawmakers. The best example solution that the government made was the

passage of RH Bill or Reproductive Health Bill. This Bill aims to access of contraceptives,

fertility control, sexual education, and maternal case. Others may see it as helpful but others

contradicts it. Teenage pregnancy is continues growing and really affects our economy status.
In Conclusion, teenage pregnancy is a bad thing for young ones. Therefore, the

increasing rate of pregnancy teenage girls should be stop because of its negative effects. To

avoid it, everyone must be aware of what it is and how will it affects ones life. The main reasons

for high rate teenage pregnancies are inadequate sex education and lack of access to birth

control. I believe that teenage pregnancy is a problem that should resolved inside the family unit.

If the parents do not want to be faced with the problem, they should take precautionary measures.

These steps should begin when their child is born. The young person should be taught social

values that they will carry to his/her teen years. Teach them that they are not neds because they

are virgins but on the country, they are better because they have self-purity> Shows them the

path they must take when they are young.
