Gateway to Name & Fame
e enrich our knowledge about an environment with the aid of
V V various science/disciplines of learning. However in order to
know the future, one has to approach an astrologer. Astrology is an art
(i.e. way of presentation) as well as a science. In this article I shall try
my best to prove that astrology is indeed a branch of science.
In any discipline, a specialist is generated not by mere study of
books, nor does the specialist acquire all his experience alone. The
subtle difference between astrology and other subjects is that there is a
factor ' X ' or intuition required for mastering this subject, since this a
Vedanga or 3rd eye. Intuition can easily be generated by techniques of
meditations. Thus in order to master the art of astrology besides regular
studies, he has to devote a few hours to train the mind. Mind is cosmic
and unlimited. By Yogic practice, if the mind is separated from some
sense organs, then it automatically perceives without the media of sense
organs. By tuning individual mind to the cosmic mind, there is nothing
that soul cannot acquire or experience or know. So a successful
astrologer is one who has acquired the powers of Divya Drisliti
(Telepathy).
Application of astrology in the study (and consequently the
prediction) of future events in the life of a person is most exciting.
Common man wants to know the future due to lack of self confidence
and fear Educated people are curious to know the future due to their
great ambitions. In short, the tendency of a homo-sapien to enter into
a state of dream (where he can see the future) drives his/her to an
astrologer.
The big picture astrology itself is of two types. The first one deals
with really broad parameters. This includes issues like national
prosperity, natural calamities, wars, public health and epidemics,
political stability and global power equations. The second type deals

with generic predictions most common among them being the ones
based on Zodiacal signs and their personal star constellations may only
be the reverse of what their zodiac sign may have to offer but all this
is, then, part of the game.
The personal astrology functions on a wide canvas and covers a
host of divergent issues within its fields. One gets to hear about
astrological interference being sought very commonly for determining
marriage proposals, dates for house warming ceremonies, names for
newly born child, etc. Actually in this earthly life there are ten
important factors which people are curious to know.
They are :
1. Educatiori
2. Character
3. Affluence
4. Social status
5. Health and happiness
6. Ups and downs in careers
7. Matrimonial and family felicity.
8. Enjoyment
9. Spiritual attainments and
10. Fame.
In this article I shall describe how astrology acts as a powerful tool
for foretelling the amount of name and fame that any individual will
acquire in his sojourn to this beautiful planet earth.
Astrological concept of Name, fame and Honour
Ail are not lucky enough to get name and fame. Many leave this
earth upwept, unhonoured arid unsung. Fame is the perfume of heroic
deeds and good name is better than precious ornanments. Even the
humblest human being would not like to aviod and shun disgrace and
dishonour, though one cannot attain fame, position and wealth.
Poet Whittier in Ichabad has written :
"When faith is lost, when honour dies.
The man is dead!"
It is astonishing to note that in this world, only a handful of people
shoot up to brilliance, achieve success, fame, power and wealth with
very little efforts, others do so with great effort and still others fail
altogether to realise their desires, ambitions and ideas. According tg^the.

pinciples of astrology it is the luck factor (or the Purva Punya) in the
horoscope which measures the amount of success that a person can
achieve in his/her life.
The horoscope of a person is believed to be the balance carried
forward into this life from the previous birth. In other words, previous
existence is believed to be the cause and the effect of the present life
which unfolds slowly but steadily, making sure that no one escapes the
universal law of Karma. Generally the 5th house is referred as the
Poorva Punyasthana or house pertaining to the merit one has
accumulated in the previous life. Maharishi Parasara says that while the
5th stands for amulets, sacred spells, learning, knowledge, sons and
royalty, it also represents fall from position. Success is determined from
this house. The 9th house stands for origin or father and future. If the
5th house represents our previous existence, the 9th from it, namely
the ascendant or the Lagna shows our present existence. If the 5th and
9th houses are not rendered strong, the horoscope is considerably
weakened. The native in whose horoscope these houses are afflicted, is
likely to drift in this life helplessly pulled by the currents of destiny. In
any horoscope the lords of 5th & 9th should not make 6 / 8 or 2 / 1 2
relationships and also should not be in 6 / 8 positions from the lord of
ascendant for a glorious career. In carving an illustrious career, the
lords of Kendra and Trikona play a vital and decisive role. The strength
of such planets are overwhelming. The truth and validity of Raja Yogas
stated by Parasara is indeed praiseworthy.
The 9th house and its lord are far more important than Lagna.
A natural benefic or the 9th lord in 9th or the 9th lord in a
quadrant and trine or in the 11th indicates good fortune. The 9th
is the Soubhagyasthana, vital for a native having not only prosperity
but also a cordially disposed spouse and good children too. The
lord of Lagna or the ruler of the ascendant in the 9th is good;
even when the planet is Mars or Saturn, an inherent natural malefic,
and where the planet is, by nature, a benefic, he is excellent in
the 9th. For instance, for Capricorn Lagna, even more than for
Aquarius Lagna, Saturn in the 9th is good, but for Sagittarius
Lagna, and Pisces Lagna, Jupiter lord of Lagna in the 9th is very
good, indeed, needless to add that for Pisces ascendant Jupiter in
the ,9th is very good indeed in scorpion and is superior to Jupiter
in Leo for Sagittarius lagna, Jupiter as the lord of 1st and 10th
houses in the 9th is very good, both for longevity and high
position. Jupiter, the greatest benefic, is bad if he owns the 2nd,
3rd, the 6th, 8th and 12th. It is often seen that when Jupiter

is placed in an angular house or in a trinal house, the native will
certainly rise very high in life. Well guarded and well aspected
Jupiter makes men of genius.
In a female horoscope if a benefic is in the 9th even though 7th &
8th may be occupied by malefics, the lady will have a long length of
married life and happiness with the husband, children and wealth, such
is the power of a benefic in the 9th to confer fortune despite malefics
in 7th & 8th.
Generally it is believed that the dasas of the 5th and 9th lords are
always good for any native. If they are afflicted, inauspicious results will
be obtained during the ruling periods of 5th/9th lords or planets
connected with them by aspect or conjunction.
In Phala Deepika, Sri Manteswara has stated :
meaning, that if the quadrants (lst/4th/7th/10th) are free from any
malefic and if the lord of Lagna and Jupiter are together or associated
in quadrants, the natives live long, free from disease, doing good acts
earning merit. Likeu/ise another sloka says, if the lord of Lagna is very
strong, free from malefic association or aspect and enjoying the benign
aspect of a powerful benefic posited in a Kendra, the native lives long
averting premature death, with permanent prosperity.
If the lord of Lagna is in Kendra or trine or in 11th house with lord
of 9th especially Jupiter or Venus, the native has Lakshmi Yoga
keeping him always above want and giving him appreciable affluence,
Jupiter in Lagna or in the 4th (aspecting 8th/10th/12th) is very
effective and useful. Jupiter in Lagna gives one a majestic personality,
learning and wisdom. Venus in Lagna gives the native a charming
appearance and learning and practical realism and taste in fine arts.
The 2nd, 9th, 10th and 11th houses and their lords respectively are
related to the financial status of the native. The position of lords of
these houses-good or bad-the aspects and conjunction with the lords of
other houses cause several yogas. The sum total of the strength or
weakness of these lords and their houses represents financial status of

the person. If the strength is on the positive side i.e. if we find more
bad influences than good ones, we find that the native may not possess
much money and even be immersed in debts. When any of the lords
of 2nd, 9th and 11th are posited in the angle of Moon, the native
becomes very rich.
Role of 8th house
Honour comprises two aspects (1) a positive aspect denoted by the
lagna and the 10th house (2) a negative aspect denoted by the 8th
house. The first requisite in a horoscope, for freedom from disgrace
and dishonour, is, that the 8th house should be unoccupied, or be
occupied only by benefics and the 8th house lord should be weak and
indeed weaker than the lord of Ascendant or the 10th lord. The lord
of 6th and 8th houses are responsible for the most of the intense
miseries of life. The debility of the 8th and 6th house should preferably
be in 3, 6 or 12 or it should be weakened by debilitation. According
to Pulippani Muni 8th lord in 3rd cancels evils and preserves longevity
too. When 8th lord is also a lord of a better house, it should occupy
the same better house or he should by a good Parivarthana (exchange)
avoid the evil of the 8th house.
For example for Scorpio, Mercury lord of 8th and 11th may be in
11th or Mercury may be in Lagna with Mars in 11th, when by one
stroke, due to Parivarthana of 8 and 11th lords, the evil of the 8th lord
Mercury and 6th lordship of Mars is almost cancelled.
The 8th house being occupied or aspected by a benefic is a
great factor for the avoidance of all that is undesirable. The sloka
is 'Subha Grahanam Sambandho Randhre Paribhave Nahi'. If the
lord of 8th in uncombined with Jupiter or unsuspected by Jupiter,
and is in a Kendra or trikona and is stronger than the lords of
Ascendant and 10th lord, the man suffers disgrace and painful
humiliation. Many high placed persons with Saturn or Rahu or Mars
or other malefic in 8th do suffer scandals, especially when this 8th
house is unaspected by natural benefics.
So the first requisite for honour is the 8th house unspoilt by malefic
occupation unless there is the strong aspect of a strong benefic and the
8th house lord being weaker than the ascendant and 10th lords.
According to Jathaka Parijata, Parvata Yoga arises when the Kendras
are occupied by benefics and if 6th and 8th house are unoccupied or
occupied by benefics. Such a man gets wide fame.

ROLE OF ASCENDANT AND lOTH HOUSE
Lagna denotes Keerthi (fame) and Murthy (form), and therefore
when Lagna and the ascendant lord are blessed by strength, or by
benefic association, the person must enjoy long life with health and
happiness. When the lagna and its lord are afflicted, the native drags
miserable life on this planet. If Lagna is occupied by Jupiter (who is not
bad by lordship) or by Venus owning good houses or Mercury well
associated, and if the lord of ascendant is in the l / 5 t h / 7 t h / 9 t h / 1 0 t h
or 11th (except where the 11th is Badhaka Sthana) the native lives
long and honourably with good health and above want. Raja Yogas will
bear fruits only when the Lagna and its lord are strong.
According to Jataka Parijata, if the lord of Lagna occupies a Kendra
or a Trikona and is placed in the house of a benefic, combined with
and aspected by a benefic, and being strong the person gets name and
fame, extending upto four oceans, that is widespread fame.
The 10th house in a horoscope represents royal honour,
professional glory, highest attainment in a career, eminence and success
that compels admiration. Recongnition, prizes and limelight are aeter-
mined from this house and its lord. The 10th house shoukl be
occupied preferably by a benefic. Even malefics are welcome in this
house because this house is also the Upachaya Sthana. The Sun and
Mars in the 10th makes a man very powerful and energetic, because
Sun and Mars in 10th house acquire directional strength. Saturn, Rahu
or Ketu in 10th forces the native to participate in cruel deeds. For
Libra Lagna, Saturn in 10th is not bad beacuse it is Yogakaraka.
The Sun is aristocrat. He represents rulers, government and those in
high authority. He is the ruler of father, heart, magnanimity and
general success in life. He is the symbol of good name, fame and
reputation. He is hot and dry aiding destruction and bringing destruc-
tion when much afflicted. His position in the horoscope is of the
utmost importance. If he occupies 3 / 6 / 9 / 1 0 / 1 1 not joined by Saturn
and Rahu and the constellations of these two malefics are not involved,
we can declare that the native is a man of character and above board.
When the ascendant for instance is Capricorn and the Sun is in Libra
involving Rahu's constellations, it is clear that the native's public life and
image can only be unfortunate. Selfishness will be the motto. Not self
reliant but leaving too much on others, he cannot succeed in his publk:
or political life. Indolence and conceit will mar his prosperity. Mars/
Saturn in 10th produces smugglers and help its native to take part in
all anti-social activities. Deadliest criminals are bom with Mars-Satum,

Mars-Rahu combinations in their 10th houses
Full Moon in the 10th house has been praised by Saravali and other
texts. Full Moon owning a good house in the meridian and well aspect
of a good Venus or Jupiter will be able to achieve better results and
name than a good Sun in the 10th. According to Yovanas planets in
the 10th and Lagna cause Dhwaja Yoga which gives the native high
position and power. According to Hora Sara three or more planets
either in Lagna, 10th or 9th will engage the person in multifarious
activites.
The sine qua non of a strong horoscope is the vitality of the Lagna
or the Chandra Lagna, which in turn is derived by disposition of
benefics in quadrants and trines. As a general rule in strong
horoscopes, there will be no malefics in quadrants.
Ketu is a malefic planet not conducive to material pleasures. His
combination with 9 / 1 0 houses or their lords and with debilitated
Saturn, kills the very roots of a happy life. Christine Keeler, heroine of
Profumo Scandal bom in Gemini Lagna has Ketu in the 9th with Sun.
But as her 9th lord Saturn is placed in the 8th with Mercury and Venus
and as her Moon, Jupiter, Mars are placed in the 12th, this lady
acquired only ill-fame of wide nature. Aspect of Jupiter on Ketu on
these houses removes all the blemishes of Ketu.
Dr. Chandrasekhara Venkataraman who was born in Libra Lagna
had Ketu in 9th aspected by Jupiter from 5th. Ramana Maharishi
hailed by followers as an incarnation of Bhagwan and bom in Libra
Lagna and Ketu in 9th associated with 4th lord Moon and aspected by
Sun in the 3rd and Jupiter in the 5th. His 9th lord Mercury was
assoicated with Lagna lord Venus in the house of wealth and aspected
by 7th lord Mars in 7th. Ramana Maharishi had made notable name in
the spiritual history of India.
Prithviraj Chauhan, the last great Hindu ruler of Delhi, bom in Aries
Lagna also had Ketu in 9th but his Ketu was aspected by Saturn in 5th
and his 9th lord Jupiter was debilitated in 10th associated with inimical
Venus and Mercury and also Sun and Saturn in inimical signs opposed
each other. Prithviraj well known for his bravery and defeating Md
Ghori several times, lost the final battle and had a pathetic end.
In an average horoscope, we see controversial planetary groups such
as Mars-Satum, Satum-Rahu, Moon-Ketu, Sun-Venus, Jupiter-Rahu,
Satum-Ketu etc. Also planets getting exalted in evil houses, weak in
Navamsa, Bhava Sandhis, Dasa of Yogakarakas intervening at Wrong
