Frankie’s Knitted Stuff

Alphabet, A-D
These letters can be knitted in any yarn,
although a tight tension is best. Using
DK weight yarn and 3.25mm / US size 3
needles, they are about 11cm / 4½" tall.

The shaping is achieved by working

short rows in various combinations,
including sharp and round corners.

The letters are knitted in moss stitch throughout:

Every row: K1, *P1, K1, repeat from * to end.

Short Rows

These are rows worked on less than the total number of stitches.
They are always worked in sets of two rows, turning the work after
the stated number of stitches. To avoid holes when turning, the
yarn is wrapped round the following stitch. This is referred to as
w&t (wrap and turn) in the pattern and is worked as follows:

After a knit stitch: sl 1 pwise, yf, turn, sl 1 pwise

After a purl stitch: sl 1 pwise, yb, turn, sl 1 pwise

The first stitch worked after turning will always be the same (either
knit or purl) as that before the turn. This will keep the moss stitch
pattern constant while shaping.
Here are the instructions for the sharp and round corners, stitch by
stitch. The numbers on the right refer to the number of stitches
worked which is a simpler way to remember the shaping.
