ECDIS Crew Check

Beside navigational checks of your ECDIS system, as e.g. regular position verification
and chart database maintenance (please see Generic ECDIS Training IMO Model
Course 1.27 (Annex 1) in accordance with the regulations II/1, II/2 and II/3 of the Annex to
the STCW Convention and Manila Amendments 2010), crew has to perform regular
hardware checks/maintenance to verify ECDIS system is fully operational and to keep it
in good working condition.
Please perform below action and keep this form filled and signed in your system log file.

Check you have MED-B, MED-D and DoC certificates
available
in your system file.
Check if Manuals and installation CDs are available and
they are correct to software version installed
If computers are equipped with front fans, make sure those
are
running. Clean filters by using a vacuum cleaner
If filter is very old or dirty it must be replaced
(CE has suitable filter material, or please order it from
Wärtsilä)
Check fans of monitors (if any). They are located at the
back side and normally you need to open console for
verification. Use vacuum cleaner to clear dust from cover
and ventilation holes.

Test UPS capacity. Please perform this test when it is
safe to navigation !
1. Some UPS have self-test indicator. If this is red
light, do not perform test, but contact us for repair.
2. Exit ECDIS application and restart computer by
clicking
<Restart> soft button on screen. If this button
is not found perform soft shutdown by manual
start of computer. Do not start any application !
3. Turn off main power. Power cord can be removed
from some UPS, for others it is necessary to cut
main breaker in power distribution board.
4. Check if audible / visual alarm on UPS is present
(in 24V MFD systems on screen)
5. Wait 5 minutes before reconnecting power.
Some UPS have battery indicator in front. If
this indication goes to “low battery” abort
test.
If computer is not shut down during test and UPS
is healthy, check is OK. Otherwise contact Wärtsilä
Voyage service
Clean keyboard
Clean trackball. If required refer to separate instruction on
how
to dismount trackball for cleaning.
Clean screen
Secure all cable connections
Check for no damaged cables

Exit ECDIS on Backup. Start DataTool, select
<Route>. Copy all Routes to dedicated USB
memory
Exit ECDIS on Backup. Start DataTool, select <AddInfo>.
Copy all Add_Info to dedicated USB memory
Exit ECDIS on Backup. Start DataTool, select <Track>.
− Copy System Log Book/Tracks/Targets of last month
(file name is date) to dedicated USB memory
− Copy Ship’s Logbook (PDF) to dedicated USB
memory
If any deficiencies please send copy of this checklist including detailed fault
description to ECDIS manufacturer.
