The Corruptions of Public Education

The reason your reading this essay is because I know that I would have a hard time explaining this to you all at once. The main topic of this essay is about the public education. Ive learned a lot about public schools ever since eighth grade and I have come to conclude that public education is training me to be a slave to the government. Youre not going to be able to understand why until your done reading the entire packet. Public education is supposed to educate me, develop my character, and prepare me for a future. Is this really what my schools have been teaching me for the pass three years? Im sure you understand that the five main subjects in school are Math, English, Science, History, and Physical Education. The school system judges the intelligence of the individual based on their grades in these five subjects. All of my secondary school years Ive achieved As and Bs but that doesnt mean I remember half of the things they taught me. Why is that? The reason is because school forces kids to learn subjects that they dont care about. The only reason why I got the grades that I got was because If I didnt I would get in trouble with the school government. Detention, Saturday School, and Suspension were the punishments if I didnt do my homework. As a result I rushed all my homework and essays learning absolutely nothing. Living life in this manner I would take a test and immediately

forget everything about it right after that chapter was over. In school I am learning absolutely nothing. The truth is that schools dont teach kids how to do anything but to obey orders. Schools dont judge kids intelligence based on what they actually know. They judge their intelligence based on a letter written down on a piece of paper. At this age I have the time that I need to grow up, and school is wasting this precious time. Lets do some math. There are 42 weeks in a school year and 5 days of school every week. That means a school year lasts for 210 days. Multiply this by 3 because its been 3 years since I last learned something and that makes 630 days. School lasts from 8am to 3pm so thats 7 hours everyday. Seven hours multiplied by six hundred thirty days is 4410 hours that I have wasted learning nothing! But isnt school supposed to help develop character? Public education is supposed to teach kids discipline, responsibility, and maturity. The truth is schools train kids how to be ignorant. Schools do not equip you to deal with things like logic. They dont give you the criteria by which to judge between right and wrong in any medium or format. And in the past they have prepared young men to be usable victims for a military industrial complex that was in need of manpower. As long as youre just smart enough to do a job and just dumb enough to swallow what they feed you, youre going to be all right. Thats what the creators of public schools really had in mind. A society where everyone was less intelligent than them because an ignorant society is easier to manipulate and control.

These ignorant kids do nothing but pressure you into stupid acts like drugs, theft and alcohol. And when you drink the right kind of alcohol you will be rewarded by the presence of a girl with a large chest who will like you better because you drank a certain brand of alcohol and you will be considered more rugged than other people because you drank alcohol and so forth. The majority of freshman that attend Covina are exposed to this and Im sick of having to be around these types of people. If your concerned about my socialization with other kids then I advise you to walk down the halls of Covina High School and tell me which behavior you see that I should emulate. I have tons of friends that are pressured to do stupid things because they think that its cool and I prefer not to follow in their footsteps. There are many things that I should know how to do at this age but I dont because its never been taught to me in school. I cant catch a ball, I cant cook, wash clothes, multitask, read maps, use tools, fix a broken object, use common sense, and tons of other things that I should be able to do at this age. Knowing this would you rather have me continue high school in this manner and then expect to be accepted into a job by the time Im done? I need time to educate myself about life and to learn the skills required to be an adult. I want you to grant me the permission to educate myself outside of school. I want to stop wasting my childhood years at a public school that isnt getting me anywhere. Time is very limited for me and It makes me

incredibly mad when Im forced to waste it on things that dont matter. Some might argue that without a high school diploma I have no hopes for a job or future. However there are plenty of other options for not only jobs but colleges as well. You can obtain a GED, which is a test that demonstrates that a person has the same level of skills required by completion of a high school study program. Kids that are home schooled can also take the SAT or ACT tests to gain admission to college programs. A high school diploma is nothing but a plaque stating that you passed with an A or in many cases Cs and Ds. I would much rather get a GED which is based off of actual knowledge instead of a letter on a piece of paper that in most cases have nothing to do with ones intelligence. Your probably thinking how am I going to educate myself at home without a teacher? The truth is I already have and have been doing so for almost 3 years. In just a few hours of private studying Ive gained more knowledge than I've gained in this whole school year. A resource to all the information in the world exists to me on a place called the internet. In these years of playing guitar Ive learned how to research information and download full books. The courses that Im taking at my school at the moment are World History, Earth Science, Geometry, and Literature and Ive already downloaded all of the textbooks in less than two hours. The best part of teaching myself is the fact that I can go at my own pace and go through every chapter of the

book. Im not being forced to learn Im doing it because Im actually interested. At school I often rush through everything and forget the knowledge right after the chapters over because the schools methods of teaching arent efficient. Youre forced to copy down countless notes about the chapter when instead you should be reading the book and studying the information. Schools never finish the whole textbook either which leaves out a lot of knowledge that I would like to learn. The books that Ive downloaded are textbooks and are far more efficient than the cheap ones in high school that are provided by the cheap government. I can learn a lot more in a much shorter time period and I wont have to be limited to the high schools rate of learning. I can go above and beyond and reach my best potential. I could wake up at 7am, shower, and be ready by 8am. I could then spend 5 hours studying Math, English, Science, History and PE. By then It should be 1pm and I am going to have to gradually teach myself how to make my own food for lunch. If there is another subject that I want to learn such as Spanish or an important interest I can simply add an extra hour into studying that subject. I plan on downloading books based on things that I dont know how to do so I can finally learn something. If you dont trust that I would be studying I could simply do it in reverse order and study the educational subjects when you get home. I want to be as productive as I can be while Im this age because I know that once Im older I wont have the time to learn these things.

It should be a responsibility as a parent to let me decide on the way that I want to live my life and I truly feel that public schools arent helping me. I have been led to believe all my life that school would make me a smarter person and I willingly took in those lies because Ive been taught at a very young age that I have to go school every day. The person that I want to become isnt being supported by public schools and it would be best to let me pursue that image of myself through my own system that I know works best for me. As the education system in our government has major flaws and isnt capable of making me a better person. Any questions feel free to ask.
