Worksheet # 5 – Exploring E-learning Platforms
ITEC 101 – Human Computer Interaction 2
2nd SEMESTER OF S.Y. 2024-2025
NAME: Dearoz, Marius V. & Tojon, James Richard DATE: May 2, 2025
PROGRAM/YEAR/SECTION: BSIT-3E SCORE:
Overview: E-learning platforms facilitate online education by providing course materials,
assessments, communication tools, and tracking student progress. This activity aims to explore
an e-learning platform, analyze its features, and critically assess its usability.
Objective: Students will explore an available e-learning platform, enroll in a course, and
analyze its features to understand its usability, strengths, and areas for improvement.
Instructions:
1. Select any e-learning platform (e.g., Coursera, Udemy, edX, LinkedIn Learning, Khan
Academy, FutureLearn, etc.).
2. Create an account if necessary and enroll in a course (free courses are acceptable).
3. Explore the platform and document your observations.
Activity:
1. E-learning Platform Information
o Name of Platform: UDEMY
o URL: https://www.udemy.com/personal-plan/
2. Enrollment Process
o How easy was it to enroll in a course? (Very Easy, Somewhat Easy, Difficult)
o What steps were involved in the enrollment process?
o Did you encounter any challenges during enrollment? If yes, explain.
Answer: The enrollment process needs a bank account before being enrolled despite
the informations stating that the first 7 days free trial. You also have to input various
private information of your own account in order to enroll a course. This counters the
idea of having a 7days free trial since you also need to input information of your
service bank account.
3. Navigation & Interface
o How intuitive is the platform interface?
o Is it easy to find course materials, assignments, and discussions?
o Does the platform provide clear instructions for students?
Answer: Udemy’s interface is simple and user-friendly, making it easy to navigate even
if you're not very tech-savvy. The homepage gives you quick access to your courses
and has a clean, uncluttered layout. Inside a course, materials are neatly organized in a
sidebar with sections and lectures, so it’s easy to track your progress. Videos,
resources, quizzes, and assignments are generally well arranged, though not every
course includes discussions or assignments. If those features are available, they’re
typically found under the “Q&A” or “Assignments” tabs. Instructors usually provide
clear instructions, and the platform offers helpful prompts to guide you through the
learning process at your own pace.
4. Key Features & Tools
Discuss if you are able to see the key features indicated below:
o Course structure (modules, lessons, quizzes):
o Communication tools (forums, chat, messaging, announcements):
o Assessment & feedback mechanisms:
o Mobile-friendliness & accessibility:
o Gamification elements (badges, leaderboards, progress tracking): User
Experience (UX) Evaluation
o What features enhance your learning experience?
o What aspects of the platform are confusing or frustrating?
o How does this platform compare to others you’ve used before?
`
Answer: Udemy makes it easy to follow along with a course where everything’s laid out
in a simple sidebar, so you can see all the lessons, modules, and quizzes at a glance.
There are some ways to communicate, like the Q&A section and course announcements,
but there’s no live chat or private messaging, which can make it feel a bit isolated. The
types of assessments really depend on the course; most have quizzes, and some include
assignments, but how much feedback you get usually comes down to how active the
instructor is. It’s super convenient to use on mobile, too the app works smoothly and lets
you learn pretty much anywhere. While you can track your progress and earn completion
certificates, there aren’t many gamified features like badges or leaderboards to keep
things engaging. All in all, the platform is easy to use and flexible, but if you’re looking
for more interaction or detailed feedback, other platforms like Coursera or edX might
offer a more connected learning experience.
Critical Thinking Questions
o How does the design of the e-learning platform influence user engagement?
o What are the security and privacy considerations when using an e-learning
platform?
o How could this platform be improved to support diverse learners (e.g., students
with disabilities or different learning styles)?
Answer: The design of an e-learning platform plays a big role in keeping users
engage.Udemy’s clean layout, clear navigation, and progress tracking make it easy to
stay on track without feeling overwhelmed. Security and privacy are also important;
Udemy protects user data through secure payment systems and basic privacy controls,
though users should still be cautious about what they share. To better support diverse
learners, the platform could improve by adding features like screen reader compatibility,
captions in multiple languages, and more contrast for visuals. Offering different learning
formats such as audio-only options or interactive exercises—would also help meet the
needs of students with various learning styles and abilities. Overall, while the platform is
user-friendly and flexible, these additions could make it even more inclusive and
effective for a wider audience.
Conclusion
o Summarize your experience and provide one recommendation for improving the
platform.
Answer: Udemy is a user-friendly and flexible e-learning platform with a clean
layout that makes it easy to navigate courses, access materials, and track
progress. Course content is well-organized, and learners can study at their
own pace, with features like downloadable resources and mobile access
enhancing convenience. While there are communication tools like Q&A
sections and announcements, the lack of real-time interaction or messaging
can limit engagement. Assessment methods and feedback vary by instructor,
and gamification is minimal, with only progress tracking and completion
certificates. The platform is secure and generally protects user data, but could
improve in terms of accessibility and support for diverse learning needs.
Recommendation: To make Udemy more inclusive and engaging, the platform
could add better accessibility features (like screen reader support and multi-
language captions) and offer more interactive learning options to cater to
different learning styles.
