CRIME PROFILE IN STATE

1. Introduction

During the year 2021, the State registered 1478 cases, while 1511 cases were registered in the
year 2020. In 2021, a total of 1478 cases comprising of 1033 IPC and 445 SLL crimes were
registered in the State, indicating a 4.70% decline from 2020 when there were 1511 cases..
On an average, 67.2 cases have been registered per a lakh’s population in the State in 2021
was lowest among the States in India. Only the UTs of Daman & Diu (52.3) had lower rate
than Nagaland.

With 56 people killed in 29 murder cases, State also reported over 1.7 murders per lakh
population and 2 deaths in cases of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and
'Deaths by Negligence' in 28 cases at a rate of 1.3 deaths per lakh population.

10 killed in hit & run cases, Overall, 56 people lost their lives in 'Deaths due to Negligence'
relating to Road Accidents in at a rate of 2.5 deaths per lakh population. In hit and run cases,
10 people lost their lives at a rate of 1.2 deaths per lakh population. A total of 0 deaths were
reported due to other forms of negligence. No women died due to dowry harassment.
