1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose is to define and establish the method for painting works

To provide clear instruction for construction of all painting.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 Project Manager

 Ensure that method statement comply with client’s requirements.


 Ensure method statement is agreed and accepted by consultant
submitted.
 Monitor implementation of this method statement and ensure the works are
carried out in accordance to the respective specification.
 Co-ordination of testing with Consultant.

7.0 SAFETY CONDITIONS

Refer to Safety Manual.

8.0 ACTIVITY PROCESS FOR PAINTING WORKS

DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING


a) Deliver the material in manufacturer’s original packing with label indicating
information for identifying the item
b) Material will be stored in a tightly covered container in well ventilated area

SURFACE PREPARATION
1. Cementitious Materials:
i. General: Prepare surface to be painted. Remove efflorescence, chalk,
dust, dirt, grease, oils, and release agents. Roughen as required to
remove glaze

ii. Determine moisture content of surface by performing appropriate test.


Do not paint surface where moisture content exceeds that permitted in
manufacturer's printed directions
iii. Clean shutter oil from concrete surface by using Sigma Paint cleaner/ \
Degreaser, a sample will be carried out for approval purpose.

2. Metal Material :
i. Touch up bare area and shop applied prime coats that have been
damaged. Wire brush, clean with solvents recommended by the
paint manufacturer, and touch up with the same primer as the shop
coat
ii. Clean non-galvanized ferrous metal surface mechanically by using
cup wire brush or sand blasting to remove foreign substances
before priming
iii. Galzanised metal: clean galvanized surface to ensure that surface
is free of oil and surface contaminants.

MATERIAL PREPARATION : carefully mix and prepare paint materials in accordance with
manufacturer’s direction.
i. Maintain container used in mixing and application of paint in a clean
condition, free of foreign material and residue
ii. Stir material before application to produce a mixture of uniform density ,
stir as required during application. Do not stir surface film into material.
Remove film and if necessary, strain material before using
iii. Use only thinners approved by the paint manufacture, and only within
recommendated limits

REMOVE HARDWARE, HARDWARE ACCESSORIES, LIGHTING FIXTURES, etc. THAT ARE NOT TO BE
PAINTED OR PROVIDE SURFACE APPLIED PROTECTION AS REQUIRED

INSTALLATION
A. GENERAL: Installation system in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions,
submittals, applicable industry standard

Do not paint over dirt, rust, scale, grease, moisture, scuffed surfaces, or conditions
detrimental to formation of a durable paint film
B. COATINGS
GENERAL
a) Minimum coating thickness: Apply material at not less than the manufacturer’s
recommended spreading rate. Provide a total dry film thickness of the entire
system as recommended by the manufacture
b) First coat will be applied to surface that have been cleared, pretreated, or
otherwise prepared for painting
c) Apply paint to even and fine texture. Leave no evidence of rolling such as laps,
irregularity in texture, skid marks, or other surface imperfections

d) Do not apply succeeding coats until the previous coat has cured
e) Sand between applications where sanding is required to produce an even
smooth surface
f) Apply additional coat where undercoats stains or other conditions show in final
coats

PRIME COATS
a) In case of non-primed material, apply prime coat
b) Recoat primed and sealed surface where evidence of suction sport, unsealed
areas appears other defect due to insufficient sealing

FINISH COATS
a) Provide finish coats that area compatible with primers
b) Pigmented finishes. Completely cover to provide smooth surface of uniform
finish, colour, appearance and coverage

PAINTING
a) Match approved sample for colour, fixture and coverage. Remove finish or
prepaint work not in compliance with requirements
b) External coating around permanent or built in fixtures, convector colour, covers
for finned tube radiation, grilles and similar component to maintain system
integrity and provide desired protection
c) Paint colour, surface treatment, and finishes are indicated in finishing schedule
d) Paint surfaces behind moveable equipment and furniture same as similar
exposed surface
e) Paint surfaces behind permanently fixed equipment or furniture with prime coat
only before final installation of equipment
f) Paint interior surfaces of ducts and other items, where visible through registers
or grilles, with a flat, nonspecular black paint
g) Match approved sample for colour, texture and coverage
h) Paint back side of access panels and removable of hinged covers to match
exposed surface

CLEANING
a) At the end for each work day, remove unused materials, debris and containers
from the project site
b) Upon completion of painting, clean glass and paint spattered surface. Remove
spattered paint by washing and scraping, using care not to scratch or damage
adjacent finished surfaces
c) Protect work of other trades, whether to be painted or not, against damage by
painting. Correct damage by cleaning, repairing or replacing and repainting
