GROUP 1: Case Scenario 1 - Norman

specifically applied in his situation (10 Marks)

A. Presenting situation

Norman is an 80-year-old man who fell and fractured his hip 3 weeks ago. He was
recently transferred to the rehabilitation unit of the hospital. Norman had been
living on his own in an apartment. His only son lives in the area with his own
family.

They regularly have Norman join them for Sunday dinner and have helped him
with heavy household chores. The Rehabilitation Team have started discharge
planning for Norman and want to determine whether he is safe to return to

his apartment or whether he should be placed in a long-term care facility.

Norman has been making progress in occupational therapy with his self-care,
however he is unable to prepare meals on his own. Norman insists he wishes to
return home and believes he will be able to look after his meals once he is

home.

During an initial interview, Norman identified occupational performance issues


that were important to him. Together they agreed to explore how to return
Norman home.
