With increasing operating stresses and temperatures, use of new materials, etc., engineers are finding it increasingly difficult to contain maintenance Group 1 Group 2 Group 3
and fabrication costs due to their lack of knowledge of welding technology and related sciences.
18 - 22 Feb 27 - 31 May 04 - 08 Mar

Group 2
With increased knowledge of the above, it has been proven that substantial cost savings are possible. Personnel in senior positions have difficulty in
being absent from their work for too long a period. 22 - 26 April

The South African Industry needs specialised skills in welding. SAIW therefore now offers the International Welding training programme to candidates wishing to pursue a career in welding. IIW courses consist
of theoretical education, practical training and examination and comprises of three levels of education and training. Modules are “International Fillet Welder”, “International Plate Welder” and “International Pipe
Welder”. Material for practical welding will be limited to carbon and low alloy steel. It is possible to specialise in more difficult steels at an additional cost of 20%.

Course Access

Appropriate health as well as physical and mental capability is required to enter at Fillet Welder level. Access to higher levels is allowed upon passing of relevant theoretical examinations and demonstration of
required practical skill.

Main Processes

SMAW: Shielded Metal Arc GMAW: Gas Metal Arc GTAW: Gas Tungsten Arc FCAW: Flux Cored Arc MMA: Manual Metal Arc
MIG/MAG: Inert or Active Gas TIG: Tungsten Inert Gas
