HYPERTENSION
- When the pressure in your blood vessels is too high (140/90 mmHg or higher).
Cause&Risk Factor:
- Age
- Atherosclerosis-related calcification increased cardiac output
- Kidney and Renovascular disease
Signs&Symptomps:
- Most people with high blood pressure have no symptoms, even if blood pressure
readings reach dangerously high levels. You can have high blood pressure for
years without any symptoms. Although, a few people with high blood pressure
may have:
● Headaches
● Shortness of breath
● Nosebleeds
● Blurred Visions
● Dizziness
● Chest Pain
● Reduced Urination
● Nausea and Vomiting
Complications:
- Increased risk of mortality
- Coronary artery disease
- Heart Failure
- Renal Failure
- Stroke
- Peripheral Artery Disease(PVD)
Nursing Care& Interventions:
- Monitor blood pressure regularly and assess for signs of end-organ damage.
Administer antihypertensive medications as prescribed and educate patients on
medication adherence, lifestyle modifications (e.g., low-sodium diet, exercise,
stress management), and the importance of routine follow-ups.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients on the importance of monitoring blood pressure, taking
medications as prescribed, and adopting a healthy lifestyle with a low-sodium
diet, regular exercise, and stress management.
