1. To identify measuring instruments useful for fitting practice.
2. To handle measuring instruments with their specific requirements in
specific condition.
Skills to be developed- Safe practice in fitting shop for setting up of
work, operations in fitting shop with the help of proper measuring and
marking procedure.
Raw material- Work piece of Mild steel (M S Flat) in Dimension 104 x
52 x 05 mm.
Tools and Equipment- Steel rule, Try square, Scriber, Chalk.
Procedure-

01. Take a mild steel flat (MS Flat) as raw material and Measuring
instruments for marking on it.
02. Put the MS flat on a bench for measuring and marking.
03. Apply paste of chalk on the surface of MS flat (104x52x05) mm.
04. Now Measure the total length, width and thickness of job, it
should be as per given size.
05. Now check the corners of the work piece with the help of Tri
square. Work piece should be 90° angle at the corners.
06. If the work piece is not in 90° at the corners it filled and extra
metal will be removed.
07. After making corners 90° angle now measure the work piece again
in desired size and mark with scriber.
08. Now mark the centre point from length side edge.
09. Check the flatness of the work piece.

Precautions-

1. All measuring instruments should be in working conditions.

2. Markings and readings on measuring instruments should be clearly
visible.
3. Place of measuring and marking is full of lightened.
4. Observational errors should be considered in measuring process.
5. Measuring instruments should be calibrated time to time for exact
reading.
PRACTICAL- 03 (FITTING SHOP)
OBJECT- Sawing and Filing practice for an accuracy of ±0.5 mm on
MS Flat (Mild steel) by making Square shape job.
Course objectives:
1. To identify tools, work material and measuring instruments useful for
fitting practice.
2. To handle tools and instruments and use them to prepare specific size
job and with finished surface.
Skills to be developed- Safe practice in fitting shop while sawing and
filing on metals, setting up of work, operations in fitting shop for
measuring and marking.
Raw material- Work piece of Mild steel (M S Flat) in Dimension 104 x
52 x 05 mm.
Tools and Equipment- Hacksaw, Steel rule, Try square, Files, Scriber,
Chalk.
Procedure-

10. Take a mild steel flat (MS Flat).

11. Fix it into the bench vice.
12. Apply paste of chalk on the surface and mark a Rectangle of
104x52x05 mm.
13. Now take out the hack saw and cut out the marked centre line at 52
mm and make two piece of same size (52x52x05mm).
14. Hold the both Square pieces of 52x52x05mm into the bench vice
and start filing them.
15. Firstly file with rough file.
16. Check the corners of job with the try square for 90° and surface
flatness. Start filing other sides also when the first side is
complete.
17. Now start filing all sides of job with the smooth file.
18. Now the job of 50x50x05mm is ready.

Precautions-

6. Hold the work piece in the bench vice with the proper manner,
otherwise it will sound in very unpleasant manner.
7. Hack saw blade should be always move 90° to the ground.
8. Properly clean all the teeth of file firstly.
9. Always use rough file firstly.
PRACTICAL- 04 (FITTING SHOP)
OBJECT- To make V-shape Fitting on MS Flat.
Course objectives:
1. To identify tools, work material and measuring instruments useful for
fitting practice (Sawing in V-shape).
2. To handle tools and instruments and use them to prepare specific size
and shape job.
Skills to be developed- Safe practice in fitting shop while sawing on
metals for desired shape, setting up of work, operations in fitting shop for
measuring and marking.
Raw material- Work piece of Mild steel (M S Flat) in Dimension 50 x
50 x 05 mm.
Tools and Equipment- Hacksaw, Steel rule, Try square, Files, scriber,
chalk.
Procedure-

01.Take a mild steel flat (MS Flat) of size 50x50x05 mm.

02.Apply paste of chalk on the surface of job.
03.Mark on both the work pieces as per the drawing for V- shape
cutting.
04.Fix work piece into the bench vice.
05.Mark the centre point of any edge on work piece -1 and work
piece-2.
06.Now mark 14 mm right side and 14 mm left side from the centre
point of edge of marking and draw a line19 mm towards opposite
edge with the scriber on work piece-1.
07.Now meet both 14 mm points to 19 mm line’s opposite end and
make a V- shape on work piece-1.
08.Now draw a line of 19 mm towards opposite edge from the centre
marked and draw a perpendicular line at the end of this 19 mm line
on work piece-2.
09.Now mark 16 mm right side and 16 mm left side from the centre
point of the perpendicular line on work piece-2.
10.Now meet 16 mm right and left points to centre point of edge
marked and make V- shape on work piece-2.
11.Now fix the job inclined into bench vice.
12.Start cutting out the marked lines on both work piece.
13.Now file the cutting edges till 01 mm.
14.Check it with the steel rule for accurate size.
15.Now the fitting of V-shape with both work piece together is ready.

Precautions-

01.Hold the work piece in the bench vice as hacksaw blade should be
vertical always.
02.Firstly start sawing from first marking line after that flip the job
and start sawing from second marking line.
03.Never use hacksaw blade at any other angle except vertical to the
ground.
04.Set hacksaw blade teeth always forward for maximum cutting
efficiency.
PRACTICAL- 05 (FITTING SHOP)
OBJECT- Drilling practice on Mild steel.
Course objectives:
1. To identify tools, work material and measuring instruments useful for
fitting practice.
2. To handle tools and instruments and use them to prepare joints of
specific shape and size

metals, setting up of work, operations in fitting shop for measuring and
marking.
Raw material- Work piece of Mild steel Flat.
Tools and Equipment- Hacksaw, Bench drill machine, Engineer’s scale,
centre punch, Hammer, jenny caliper, vernier caliper, scriber, chalk.
Procedure-

01-Took the MS flat work piece which has 50 mm from one side.
02-Now put the chalk paste on the job which side to be mark.
03-Now mark the centre point of the hole with centre punch as per
given drawing.
04-Now clamp the job in accurate position on drilling machine vice.
05-Now make the hole (dia-10mm) with drill at place marked by
centre punch as shown in figure.
06-Now file the job with round and flat file.
07-Now the job is ready.

Precautions-

01-During drilling the soft metal the drilling machine should run at
low rpm and during hard metal like mild steel drilling machine
should run at high rpm.
02-Marking should be done by centre punch before drilling process.
03-Use transparent goggle and safety gloves for safety from chips of
metal generated by drilling process.
04-Use coolant (water) for removing Heat from tool and job.
05-Drill should not run continuous on job, it should take a gap with
moving upward side.
06-Drill machine should not start with touching and forcing drill bit
on the work piece, there should be a gap between drill bit and work
piece at starting.
