SUMMARY
Numerous communities struggle with unreliable power supply, while
excessive fossil fuel use continues to drive climate change. Solar energy is a
popular demand, but it loses effectiveness on cloudy or rainy days, leaving people
without a stable source of electricity.
To address this issue, Hybrid GreenRoof offers a smart, eco-friendly solution
by combining solar panels with piezoelectric rain panels to ensure continuous
power. During sunny days, the solar panels generate electricity, while during rainy
seasons, the piezoelectric panels harness energy from raindrops. A smart controller
efficiently distributes energy, prioritizing solar power first, then rain-generated
electricity, and finally stored battery power when needed. This system includes
500W thin-film solar panels, PVDF piezoelectric sheets, and a 12V 20Ah battery with
an inverter. It can run essential appliances for up to seven hours and requires little
maintenance. With a 25–30-year lifespan for solar panels and 10–15 years for
piezoelectric panels, it’s a reliable, cost-effective investment at around ₱30,000.
By reducing reliance on fossil fuels, the Hybrid GreenRoof promotes
sustainability and energy resilience, supporting Sustainable Cities (SDG 11) and
Climate Action (SDG 13)—helping communities build a greener, more self-sufficient
future.
