KICKING SKILLS
IN KARATE
MAEGERI
(Front Kick)

A straight, snapping kick


forward using the ball of the
foot.
Typically targets the stomach,
chest, or face.
YOKOGERI KEKOMI
(Side Kick Thrust)

A powerful side kick where the leg


is thrust straight out.
Uses the heel or edge of the foot
to strike, aiming to push through
the target.
YOKOGERI KEAGE
(Side Snap Kick)

A quick, snapping side kick


with a whipping motion.
Focuses on speed and sharp
impact rather than power,
often targeting ribs or head.
MAWASHIGERI
(Roundhouse Kick)

A circular kick coming around the


side, using the instep or ball of the
foot.
Strikes the side of the opponent’s
body or head.
USHIROGERI
(Back Kick)
A backward thrusting kick,
delivered without turning to face
the target.
Uses the heel to strike, often
