MED05 – CURRICULUM THEORY, DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

1. What kind of a Strategic Intervention Material will you design or develop in improving the
academic performance of your students? Draft a simple SIM for you to be able to meet your
objective.
Strategic Intervention Material can improve the performance of the least mastered skills
of the learners. Based on my experience as a Social Studies teacher, I observed that the learners
are only memorizing the dates and events that happened in the past. Using the SIM, I make our
discussion more engaging for them where I tried the storytelling strategy so that the learners can
understand and appreciate our topic.
Strategic Intervention Material:
At the end of the discussion, the learners should be able to:
● Understand the topic;
● Appreciate the events that happened in the past.
Activity: The student will be having a short play about the topic

2. As an educational leader, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the MATATAG Curriculum?
Please enumerate at least three and explain. Why is it now called the Revised K to 12
Curriculum?
The strengths of the MATATAG Curriculum are, first, having a decongested curriculum. The
number of core competencies were shortened and focused on the foundation skills for the learners. As an
educational leader I observed that some of the lessons are mostly the same. Second, using the mother
tongue language for the elementary students in the teaching-learning process, it helps the learners to
easily understand the lesson and can actively participate in teaching-learning. Lastly, the learners are
encouraged to prepare for the real-word experiences. While the weaknesses of MATATAG curriculum
were lack of facilities or insufficient facilities, how can the learners have a first real-life experience if the
equipment or materials to be used are lacking. Second, the implementation gaps, some of the teachers
don’t have easy access regarding the implementation. Finally, it causes confusion to learners, teachers and
administrators.
The MATATAG Curriculum also known as Revised K to 12 Curriculum because it is designed to
address challenges and improve educational outcomes. While the K-12 curriculum aimed to align the
education system with international standards, the Matatag Curriculum focuses on decongesting content
and emphasizing foundational skills like literacy and numeracy.

MED06 – INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN AND PLANNING

1. Gagne's model of instructional design is based on the information processing model of the mental
events that occur when adults are presented with various stimuli and focuses on the learning
outcomes and how to arrange specific instructional events to achieve those outcomes. Applying
Gagne's nine-step model is an excellent way to ensure an effective and systematic learning
program as it gives structure to the lesson plans and a holistic view to the teaching. What
instructional design will you prepare for your students who have different learning styles and
intelligences? Upon discovering their learning styles, what strategies did you use to maximize
their potential?
In a classroom, learners are composed of different learning styles some of them are visual
learners, works effectively in group, good at numeracy or language, etc. but with the help of
Gagne’s model of instruction as a teacher it helps me to understand on how to still have an
effective teaching-learning process despite of the diverse learning styles of the learners inside the
classroom. To maximize the potential of every learner it is effective to use the blended teaching
strategy in the teaching-learning process. Blended instructional strategies, such as project-based
learning, learning stations, and multiple format outputs—letting students demonstrate their
understanding through essays, performances, models, or presentations. And also integrate
reflective practices, encouraging students to be aware of how they learn best and to set personal
goals. By aligning instructional design with students' unique ways of learning, I foster not only
academic growth but also confidence, creativity, and independent learning. This approach ensures
that all students are actively engaged, valued, and equipped to reach their full potential.

2. Given the highest and the lowest sections in class, what are the things that you will consider in
designing a specific lesson to teach the learners in the said groups? How will you implement rules
and principles and be able to meet the academic performance from both groups of learners?
Enumerate also the different challenges that you encountered in designing and planning your
instruction. Explain.
In the teaching and learning process it is very important to know the capabilities of every
learner so that as a teacher we can adjust on how to implement our lesson in every class even if
it's the highest and lowest sections in class. By adjusting the way of teaching that fits the needs of
the learners it helps them to understand the lesson that was discussed. The challenge that I
encountered in designing and planning my instruction is on how to make it encouraging for every
learner to participate in discussions. Applying different teaching methods helped me to
understand how to motivate every learner to participate in the class because some of the learners
don’t want to participate in the activities in class knowing what intervention needed helps me to
understand the learners.

MED07 – EVALUATION MODELS AND METHODS

1. Evaluation model plays a significant role in the educational field. Using the illustration, what are
the things that you need to consider in designing, developing, analyzing and implementing the
evaluation process?
When designing, developing, analyzing, and implementing an evaluation process, it's
crucial to consider several key elements. These include defining clear evaluation goals,
selecting appropriate methods, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring the evaluation is
feasible and useful. It's also important to plan for data collection, analysis, and reporting,
as well as to establish a timeline for the evaluation process.

2. DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015 known as the Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12
Basic Education Program, was issued by the department to provide guidance on the assessment of
student learning and on the grading scheme. What were the facilitating and hindering factors that
you experienced in assessing your learners in the concluded school year? (You may refer to the
Assessment Guidelines being implemented in your workplace)
Classroom assessment is an integral part of the curriculum; it helps us to keep track of
learners' performance and if they really understand the lesson. The facilitating factor gives a clear
and precise instruction on how to conduct the formative or summative assessment, the guidelines
set an objective on how to attain learners' performance however, several challenges also
emerged. A key issue was the varying levels of student readiness and support at home and also
the time constraints especially on providing feedback immediately to report to the learners and
their parents. The guidelines on Classroom Assessment for K to 12 Basic Education Program
helps us teachers to measure the learners performance academically.

MED 08 – HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING BEHAVIOR DEVELOPMENT

1. Skinner believed that “we learn best when our actions are reinforced.” How can you apply this
Operant Conditioning theory by B. F. Skinner in the implementation of the MATATAG
Curriculum?
Operant Conditioning Theory by B.F. Skinner is a behaviorist approach that emphasizes
the role of reinforcement and punishment in shaping behavior. When applied to the implementation of the
MATATAG Curriculum, which aims to strengthen foundational skills, values education, and meaningful
learning, operant conditioning can help reinforce positive learning behaviors and improve student
engagement. For example, giving positive feedback for the job well done of every learner or giving them
a simple token of appreciation in their accomplishments. By applying Skinner's operant conditioning
within the MATATAG curriculum, teachers can promote a structured, responsive, and values-driven
classroom environment. Reinforcing positive behaviors and gradually guiding students toward higher
achievement helps ensure that learning is both meaningful and sustainable, a key goal of the MATATAG
reform.
2. Classical Conditioning theory helps us to understand how our responses to one situation become
attached to new situations. Kindly explain this and give some situations how you were able to
apply this to your learners?
Classical Conditioning, developed by Ivan Pavlov, is a learning process that occurs when
a neutral stimulus becomes associated with a meaningful stimulus, eventually triggering a similar
response. Over time, the learner begins to respond to the neutral stimulus in the same way they
would to the original one. For example, using a bell when the learners are being noisy and they
should stop once they hear the bell ring. I did this before we started our discussion. I set the rules
so that the learners will be aware about this instruction. So that, the learners hear the bell once
they now know what to do. Applying this theory helps us teachers on how to set rules and
guidelines inside the classroom. It will also help us to manage our class effectively.
