🇮🇳 Standard Method of Measurement in India (MEP QS)
📘 1. DSR – CPWD Standard (India)
Document: Delhi Schedule of Rates (DSR) issued by CPWD (Central Public Works
Department).
Used For: Public sector and government projects.
Applicability to MEP: Limited. Mostly civil; however, MEP items are often measured
in custom schedules or annexures.
📘 2. IS 1200 Series – Indian Standard for Measurements
Relevant Parts for MEP:
o IS 1200 Part VIII – Measurement of Steel Works
o IS 1200 Part XIII – Measurement of Water Supply, Sanitary, and Drainage
Works
o IS 1200 Part XV – Measurement of Electrical Works
Use: Widely followed in Indian government and private projects for measurement rules
and BOQ formats.
Unit Norms: Based on IS measurement units like Rmt, Sq.m, Nos, etc.
📘 3. Client/Consultant Specific SMM
Private Projects: Use consultant-defined standards or hybrid methods based on IS 1200
with practical adaptations (e.g., for HVAC ducting, plumbing stacks, or electrical BMS
cabling).
Software Support: Often integrated into software like CCS Candy, BuildSmart, Excel,
or ERP modules.
🌍 International Standards for Measurement (MEP QS)
📘 1. SMM7 – Standard Method of Measurement 7th Edition (UK)
Published by: RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
Used In: UK and Commonwealth countries, mostly for building works including MEP.
Approach: Divides work by elements (e.g., Mechanical Installations, Electrical
Installations).
Note: SMM7 is largely superseded by NRM in the UK now.
