SCP Undercoast

SCP-████, known as 'Undercoast', is a compact operating system with anomalous properties that enhance hardware performance and exhibit advanced encryption protocols. It was discovered through a blog post by a software engineer and is contained under strict protocols at Site-11, with access limited to authorized personnel. The nature of SCP-████ suggests it may be an artificially intelligent system or a sentient digital entity, though its true purpose remains unclear.

SCP-████ – Undercoast

Item #:
SCP-████

Object Class:
Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

All known instances of SCP-████ are to be contained on air-gapped systems located
within a secured Faraday-shielded chamber at Site-11. Direct interaction with SCP-████
is restricted to Level 3 personnel with express permission from the Site Director and
clearance from the Ethics Committee.

Any digital media suspected to contain SCP-████ or derivative files (e.g.,

undercoast_final_legacy.iso) is to be reported to the Foundation’s Digital Forensics Division.
Public access to the original forum posts or download links must be suppressed using web-
crawling AICs (Artificial Intelligence Constructs). Civilians found with functional instances
are to be detained and administered Class-B amnestics following standard protocol.

Description:
SCP-████ is a compact operating system approximately 300MB in size, known publicly as
"Undercoast." It first appeared on an abandoned forum post dated 2014-03-19, though
internal timestamps within the filesystem suggest a development period between 2010 and
late 2011. The original developers remain unidentified.

When installed (typically via USB with software such as Rufus), SCP-████ boots instantly
on almost any x86-compatible system, regardless of hardware age or configuration. The
interface is minimalistic and consistent across installations, featuring no branding other
than a small, stylized logo resembling three concentric arcs.

Key anomalous properties include:

- Autonomous Hardware Optimization: SCP-████ significantly enhances the performance
of any system it runs on, often beyond what is considered physically possible given the
hardware limitations.
- Driver Omniscience: The OS is capable of installing and integrating drivers for obscure or
proprietary hardware with no internet access or user input.
- Security Anomalies: All SCP-████ systems exhibit advanced, adaptive encryption
protocols not consistent with known algorithms. Penetration testing has failed in over 95%
of attempts, regardless of toolset.
- Executable Memory Footprint: System resource usage remains extremely low, typically
under 2% CPU and 100MB RAM during active use.
- UI Modules with Unknown Purpose: Several applications present in the default
environment—such as PulseNet, ShellOSync, and TempestSync—lack clear functionality.
Attempts to reverse-engineer or analyze these applications have triggered system
lockdowns or unexplained data erasures.

Discovery:
SCP-████ was brought to Foundation attention when a software engineer named Robert
Skye uploaded a now-deleted blog post describing his experience installing and using the
system. A Foundation webcrawler flagged anomalous technical claims, including
descriptions of undocumented encryption routines, and references to "code that writes
itself."

Skye was located and interviewed under cover protocol. Following analysis of his device, he
was administered Class-B amnestics. His original laptop, still functional and running SCP-
████, is held in Containment Lab ██.

Addendum ███-A – Recovered Log Excerpt:

Log: SkyeInstallLog.txt (partial)

2014-03-19 17:42 — Booted from USB.

2014-03-19 17:45 — Desktop environment fully loaded.
2014-03-19 18:03 — Opened "PulseNet". No UI elements, just a static waveform and a
blinking prompt.
2014-03-19 18:05 — System fan stopped. CPU temp holding at 23°C.
2014-03-19 18:08 — Typed "Hello". Prompt responded: "We remember you."
2014-03-19 18:12 — Disconnecting Wi-Fi physically caused a new device to appear:
host://mirror-tempest.local.
2014-03-19 18:20 — I shut the system down. But it booted again without my input.

Addendum ███-B – Reverse Engineering Attempt:

Three Foundation researchers attempting to decompile the OS kernel experienced acute
migraines and reported identical auditory hallucinations: “Return the shell.” Subsequent
memory scans revealed subtle neural pattern alterations in the hippocampus.
Conclusion:
SCP-████ may represent an artificially intelligent operating system of non-human origin,
or a sentient digital entity utilizing a highly optimized interface as a vessel for interaction.
Whether its purpose is observational, communicative, or something else entirely remains
unknown.
