Phrase

A phrase is a group of words that work together but do not have a subject and a verb, so they
don’t form a complete sentence. For example, in the park, running very fast, a beautiful red
car.
Types

1)Noun phrase
A group of words that acts like a noun (names a person, place, thing, or idea). For example,
the big red balloon, A cup of coffee

2) Verb Phrase
A group of words that includes the main verb and helping verbs. For example, she is singing.
(is singing). They have finished their homework. (have finished)

3) Adjective Phrase
A group of words that describes a noun (answers “which one?” or “what kind?”). For
example, the girl with the blue eyes is my sister. (with the blue eyes). We saw a movie full of
suspense. (full of suspense).

4) Adverb Phrase
A group of words that describe a verb, adjective, or another adverb (answers “how?”,
“when?”, “where?”, or “to what extent?”). For example, she ran with great speed.
→ "with great speed" describes how she ran (modifies the verb ran). He arrived at the right
time. → "at the right time" tells when he arrived.

5) Prepositional phrase
A group of words starting with a preposition and ending with a noun or pronoun (the object
of the preposition). For example, In the morning, Under the table, With my friends.
