Chapter 1
Introduction/Rationale
In today’s fast-paced educational environment, effective time management
is more important than ever for academic success. With the rise of online
learning, increased academic workload, and various extracurricular
pressures, students are constantly challenged to balance their
responsibilities efficiently. Time management refers to the ability to plan,
organize, and control how time is spent on specific activities. It plays a
crucial role in determining how well students perform academically.
Recent studies emphasize the strong relationship between time
management and academic achievement. For example, Alghamdi (2021)
found that university students who practiced daily planning and goal-setting
performed significantly better in their coursework than those who did not.
Similarly, Obaid et al. (2022) revealed that students who effectively
managed their time reported higher levels of academic satisfaction and
lower levels of academic stress.
During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, the shift to online and blended
learning environments further highlighted the importance of time
management skills. According to Martinez and Torres (2023), students who
adapted to digital time management tools, such as calendars and task
managers, were better able to meet academic deadlines and maintain
consistent performance. Additionally, Lee and Chen (2024) emphasized
that self-regulation and time awareness are strong predictors of success,
especially in self-paced learning environments.
Time management is one of the most crucial skills that students must
develop to achieve academic success. In today's fast-paced academic
environment, students often struggle to balance multiple responsibilities
such as assignments, projects, examinations, and extracurricular activities.
As a result, poor time management can lead to stress, missed deadlines,
and lower academic performance. Conversely, students who effectively
manage their time are more likely to perform better academically, complete
their tasks on schedule, and experience reduced anxiety.
Several studies have shown a strong link between time management and
academic success. According to Alzahrani et al. (2021), effective time
management practices significantly improve students’ academic
performance, particularly when students allocate their time wisely between
study, rest, and other obligations. Similarly, Santos et al. (2022) found that
high school students who planned their study time and avoided
procrastination achieved higher grades in science and mathematics
classes.
Moreover, Tipu et al. (2022) emphasized that prioritization and goal setting
are essential components of time management that contribute directly to
academic achievements. A study by Almutairi and Alsalem (2023) revealed
that college students with strong time management habits showed better
classroom engagement and overall performance.
According to a study conducted by Mendoza (2023), students who regularly
set academic goals and followed a structured study schedule were able to
maintain high GPAs across multiple semesters. In another research by
Castro and Javier (2021), it was found that students who lacked time
awareness often struggled with performance due to last-minute cramming
and poor preparation habits.
II.Statement of the problem
This research aims to answer the following questions.
1. How does effective time management influence students' academic
performance?
2. What are the common time management practices among academically
successful students?
3. What challenges do students face in managing their time effectively?
III.Defination of terms
•Time Management– The process of organizing and planning how to
divide your time between specific activities to increase efficiency and
productivity.
•Academic Success – The achievement of educational goals, often
measured through grades, test scores, GPA, and the completion of
academic programs.
• Procrastination– The act of delaying or postponing tasks, which often
leads to reduced academic performance and increased stress.
•Productivity– The measure of how efficiently a student can complete
tasks and meet academic requirements within a given time frame.
•Study Habits– The routines and techniques students use when studying,
including time allocation, environment, and materials used.
•Time allocation– The amount of time assigned or planned for specific
academic tasks or activities.
•Goal setting– The process of identifying academic objectives and
outlining steps and timeframes to achieve them.
•Prioritation – The ability to identify and focus on the most important tasks
first, based on deadlines or importance.
•Academic performance– The measurable outcomes of a student’s efforts
in school, typically represented by grades or other assessment results.
•Self dicsipline– The ability to control one's emotions, behavior, and
desires in the face of external demands, especially for consistent academic
performance.
IV.Conceptual framework
This framework shows that effective time management influences a
student's academic success. Proper planning, scheduling, and task
prioritization help students meet academic demands, leading to
higher performance. However, other factors like motivation and
environment can also influence the outcome.

CHAPTER III. METHODOLOGY
I.Research Design
According to recent studies, effective time management is linked to better
academic performance. Alghamdi (2021) found that students with higher
time management skills tend to have better grades due to improved task
prioritization and reduced procrastination. Similarly, Daniel and Woodyard
(2022) demonstrated that students who apply time management strategies
not only achieve higher academic outcomes but also experience lower
levels of academic stress. These studies highlight the significance of time
management in academic success, reinforcing the importance of
understanding this relationship within the context of Libagon National High
School students.
II .Respondent's Profile
The respondents of this study will be selected junior and senior high school
students currently enrolled at Libagon National High School during the
academic year 2024–2025. A total of 100 students will be chosen using
simple random sampling to ensure a representative sample of the student
population. The participants will be asked to complete a survey that gathers
data on their time management practices and academic performance. The
selection will focus on students from various grade levels to capture a wide
range of time management behaviors and academic outcomes.
III. Research instruments
Recent studies have highlighted the significant role of time management in
academic success. Alghamdi (2021) found that students with effective time
management skills had higher academic performance, attributed to better
task organization and reduced stress. Additionally, Daniel and Woodyard
(2022) reported that students who engaged in structured planning and
prioritization achieved better grades and experienced less academic
burnout. These findings support the hypothesis that time management
practices are positively correlated with academic success, particularly
among high school students.
•I set specific goals for my academic tasks."
•I create a daily study schedule."
•I avoid procrastination in completing assignments.”
IV. Treatment of Data
The data collected from the survey questionnaires will be analyzed using
descriptive and inferential statistical methods to determine the relationship
between time management practices and academic success among
students at Libagon National High School.
