JUVENILE
CORRECTIONAL
CENTER
Influencing Human Psychology
Through Designed Environment.
Presented by:
Wurie Chika Noble
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
A juvenile correctional centre is a facility
created to house, treat, and reintegrate young
individuals aged 13 to 18 years who have
committed offences.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The city's juvenile incarceration institutions
frequently fall short in meeting the complex
psychological demands of these young
offenders, which raises the risk of recidivism
and has a detrimental effect on the inmates'
general well-being.

AIM OF STUDY
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
To design a juvenile detention facility that
maximizes the built environment to improve
psychological health, promote rehabilitation.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To design flexible, versatile environments
that can support a range of rehabilitation
activities and programs while
encouraging individual development and
skill improvement.
Identifying factors that influence human
psychology
02
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
The environment's architectural layout has profound influence
in institutional settings like juvenile detention facilities, where
the environment's design may have a significant impact on
young offenders' psychological health and chances of
rehabilitation.
PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS
There are psychological components to juvenile delinquency as
well. Numerous risk factors have been found in studies, such as;
Impulsivity.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Low self-esteem.

METHODOLOGY (CASE STUDY)
CASE STUDY METHOD
To assess their present situation and contrast the
design of the two kinds of facilities, various local and
worldwide Juvenile Correctional Centres were the
subject of in-depth case studies.
Case studies are analysed using Design and Content
Analysis. The Case Studies Analyzed are;
Halden Prison, Norway.
Sonoma County Juvenile Centre.
