10.1.
2 Wet Film Thickness, WFT
Spot checks shall be carried out during the course of the painting operation to ensure that film
thickness is being maintained. These shall be performed according to the procedure described in
ISO 12944-7. See Appendix 5.
10.1.3 Dry Film Thickness, DFT
(Revision) Dry film thickness check of each layer (primer, intermediate and final coating layers)
shall be checked in accordance with this specification recommendation. Acceptance criteria shall
be as per SSPC-PA 2. See Appendix 5.
10.1.4 (Revision) Adhesion
The adhesion of the primer to the steel substrate shall be determined by the application of either
a crosscut test in accordance with ISO 2409 or a pull-off test described in ISO 4624.
When total film thickness is less 200 μm, crosscut shall be done in accordance with ISO 16276-2
(the acceptance criteria shall be class 0).
For painting systems with total film thickness higher than 200 μm, put off test shall be executed
as per ISO 16276-1 (the acceptance criteria is minimum 3 Mpa for mechanical test equipment and
5 Mpa for hydraulic equipment).
See Appendix 5.
10.1.5 (Revision) Porosity Check
Any porous area shall be repaired, but when the number of pores is greater than 3 per square
meter, the entire area shall be blast cleaned and repainted as per this specification.
Porosity check will be done ONLY for internal lining on project.
After the lining has cured, the dry films shall be electrically inspected to holidays to verify
continuously with ASTM D5162 Method A: Low voltage wet sponge testing up to 500microns
TDFT, or ASTM D5162 Method B: High voltage spark testing for exceeds 500microns TDFT. Any
pinholes or other defects detected shall be marked and subsequently repaired to yield a defect-
free surface. See Appendix 5.
Any porous area shall be repaired, but when the number of pores is greater than 3 per square
meter, the entire area shall be blast cleaned and repainted as per this specification.
10.1.6 Defects or damages
Defects or damages to painted surfaces caused by the contractor shall be repaired by contractor
at his own cost. Up to five (5) years after completion of his services, contractor shall repair any
