Religion is frequently involves cultural ideas, worldviews, scripture, prophecies,
revelation, and values that have spiritual meaning to adherents of the specific faith, and it can
include a variety of behaviors such as sermons, rituals, player, meditation, holy location,
symbol, trances, and feast. Religion, is a broad and complex to study because of the belief in
and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or Gods. A pursuit or interest
to which someone ascribes supreme and importance. Because religion is to promote mutual
understanding, appreciate uniqueness and similarities.
This are the type of religion in the world, 1. Christianity 2. Islam 3. Judaism 4. Hinduism 5.
Buddhism 6. Confucianism 7.Taosim 8. Shintoism, these are religion in the world. We have that
kinds of different religion, beliefs, views we need to respect each religion because we have the
similarities and uniqueness. Abrahimic Faith is the father of all nations, the first of the Hebrew
patriarchs and a figure revered by three great monotheistic religions, the Judaism, Christian and
Islam.
Belief is a set of belief or principle that help us interpret our everyday reality,
understand, organized, and make sense of the world. There are kinds of beliefs of religion the
Atheism, Monism, Monotheism, Polytheism, and Agnosticism. The Atheism, disbelief of in denial
of the existence of a personal god. Monism, there is no real distinction between god and the
universe. Monotheism, believing in one god or the doctrine belief in one supreme god.
Polytheism, believing in many god, or the belief and worship of many god. Agnosticism, god
cannot known. These are the kinds of beliefs in each religion. Two way of defining religion the
Substantive, and also the Functional.
1. Substantive – belief and practices ‘which assumes the existence of supernatural living’
( Davine 2007). Attempt to explain the primitive human beings to understand their
explicable experiences.
2. Functional - Social sequences of religion, obligation in our society. Unified beliefs and
practices which unite into a single moral community.

Religion – is belief in someone’s else experience

Spirituality – is having your own expensive (Deepak Chopra)
A lot of people mistakes spirituality for religion of some mysterious, supernatural occurrence.
Some even think of it as a sect but this is because of their lack of knowledge and their fear of
being manipulated.
“ Religare ” – means to bring together.
“ Relegere “ – rehearse painstakingly.

World View ( Brutal ) ( Relevance )

 A term that describes what you believe, what is true and how you interpret reality.

Because your moral may not be moral to me.

Judaism
Judaism is the oldest of the monotheistic religions, whose origin dated back 1500BCE.
Jewish tradition traces its development to the ancient patriarch Abraham, and his descendants
Isaac and Jacob. It is believed that Judaism was instituted with the covenant between God and
the Israelites in Mt. Sinai. They call their God “ YAWH “ choose them as an example of holiness
and ethical behavior. The origin of the Jewish people and the beginning of Judaism are
recorded in the first five books of the Hebrew bible, the Pentateuch. As a religion and culture,
Judaism has three notable founding figures or patriarchs, namely, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
The first five book of the old testament also known as the Pentateuch.
Genesis – Traces the origins of Gods people from creation to Egypt.
Exodus – Relates Gods deliverance of Israel from Egypt and establishing covenant.
Leviticus – Sets forth the laws of worship.
Numbers – relates the wilderness wanderings.
Deuteronomy – Gives the law to a new generation with special emphasis to those entering the
land.
According to traditions, Abraham’s original name was “Abram” who was born in the city
of Ur of the Chaldeas around 1800 B.C.E. While Abram and his wife Sarai were initially childless,
Abram bore a son to Sarai’s Egyptian handmaid Hagar. He was named Ishmael who is
considered as the ancestor of the Arabs. However, Ishmael was not the heir to God’s promise.
God changed Sarai’s name to “Sarah” meaning “Princess” or “Noble woman”. Later in life, the
old Abram and Sarah had a son named Isaac, the heir to God’s covenant and the ancestor of the
Jewish people. Abrams name was change to “ Abraham” or the “ Father of many nations “. The
prophet Moses, who led the Israelites out of slavery from Egypt guided, taught and interpreted
Gods will, and his divinely inspired teachings laid the foundation of Judaism. Moses, mother,
Jochebed, put him into a basket when he was a baby to save him from the pharaoh’s decree. He
was then found and rescued by the pharaoh’s daughter Bithia and raised him like her own son.
Jews believe that there is only one god who created everything and that God can
communicate to the human beings through revelation while as for the humans, they can
communicate to Him through prayers and meditation. Jews also have their creeds as well as set
of rules to follow. God appeared to Moses in Mt. Sinai, introduced Himself as Yahweh and gave
the Ten commandments to Moses. On the other hand, Judaism also have their Oral Torah
which is known as the Talmud that means “ study “. It contains the materials of law and moral
codes, thus it is considered as a fountain of religious thoughts and inspirations for the Jews.
The sacred text of the Hebrews is called the Tanakh ( written Torah ), a collection of 24
books which is divided into 3 parts: The Torah ( teaching ) which contains the early history of
Judaism and is composed of the first five books called the Pentateuch, Nev’im ( Prophet ) where
in prophets served as spokesperson who criticize the hypocritical practices of Jewish rituals.
And the last one, Ketuvim ( Writings ) that contains works poetry, temple ritual, private player
and philosophical explorations.
Judaism cannot only be considered as a singular religion but a number of religions
which are differentiate in their culture.
In this lesson I identify the Judaism does not only stand as a single religion but is divided
into denominations that practice different beliefs and cultures although they all still adhere to
some teachings of Torah. Because of these differences, it then resulted to different issues which
affected the lives of the Jews. To sum up the lesson, compare and contrast the different
denominations of Judaism.
Christianity
Christianity was developed in Judea, in the mountainous southern part of the Palestine
around C.E. During that time, Judaism was the dominant religion in Palestine and it was
considered by the Jews as land promised to them by God. However, historical development in
the religion showed successive powers that dominated Mesopotamia and the nearby
territories, including Palestine which was considered to have a desirable location. Christianity
also is the most widely practiced religion in the world, with more than 2 billion. Jesus was born
in Bethlehem, one of the places in Palestine, Rome ruled over Palestine in 63 BC. The Messiah
as the liberator from evil hands Rome and the beginning of the new religion simply proved to
be the fulfillment of what the what the people expected. The death of Christ on the cross
believe to be fulfillment of the prophecy as the savior of humanity from the bondage of sins
and the cross become the symbol of Christianity.
The most common symbols associated with Christianity are the cross and the fish
symbol. The cross symbolized how Jesus suffered on the mount of Calvary for the sake of
humanity. It showed Jesus Christs victory over sins and remind us God’s eternal love for us. On
the other hand, the fish symbol was used by the Christianity in meeting other Christians. It also
has the secret meaning ichtys: Iseous Christos Theou Yios Soter, meaning Jesus Christ, Son of
God Savior.
The first Christian communities had close ties to Judaism but as the Apostles continued
in their ministry, Christianity took on its own unique characteristics. A major change during the
early period of Christianity was the inclusion of non- Jews or gentiles into the Christian
community Through the ministry of the Apostles, it spread into various places in Asia, Africa,
and Europe.
The doctrine is something that taught: a principle presented for acceptance of belief. In
scripture, doctrine takes on broader meaning. In the Evangelical dictionary of Biblical Theology,
doctrine is given “Christianity is a religion founded on a message of good news rooted in the
significance of the life of Jesus Christ. In scripture, doctrine refers to the entire boy of the
essential theological truths that define and describe the message. The message includes
historical facts such as those regarding the events of the life of Jesus Christ. There are four
teaching of Jesus written, Matthew, Luke, Mark and also John, one of the holy scripture of
Christian religion, to tell the history of life earth is the Holy Book.
Beliefs:
 The one triune god, creator of all.
 The life, death and Christian belief on the resurrection of Jesus, sent by god to save the
world.
 The second coming of Christ.
 The holy bible ( both old and new testament )
 The across as a symbol of Christianity.
Christianity’s central and major beliefs and doctrines are professed in the Apostles Creed and
the Nicene Creed. These creeds are declarations of faith outlined in several statements or
confessions of faith rooted in the teachings of the Scripture.
Islam
Islam was began with the Arabian desert people around early seventh century C.E. These
people had developed their own set of beliefs prior to the establishment of Islam and had been
Influences by other religions for a long time ago of period of time, including Byzantine
Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism. The symbols which represent the Islamic religious are
the star and the crescent.
Islam is a prominent international religion that was established by the Prophet
Muhammad in Arabia in the seventh century CE. The Arabic phrase Islam, literally “ surrender”
illustrates the core religious nation of Islam, that the believer ( called a Muslim from the active
particle of Islam ) accepts surrender to Allah’ s will. Allah is regarded as the only God, the
world’s creator, sustainer, and restorer. The sacred books the Quran ( commonly written Koran
in English ), which Allah revealed to his messenger Muhammad, convey Allah’s will, to which
humans must adhere. In Islam, Muhammad is regarded he final in a line of Prophets ( along
with Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Solomon ), and his message both consummates and
completes the revelation credited.
The spread of Islam
After Muhammad death, the leadership of the Islamic community was passed on the
rightly guided caliphs, who were the first four successors of the prophet. Their rule was
considered a period of growth, expansion, and prosperity for Islam.
 Abu Bakr – He was the first caliph. During his time, the Quran were put into writing.
( before, Quran was passed on by word of mouth. )
 Umar – Second caliph. He expand Islam outside of the Arabian Peninsula, an controlled
territories in the Levant and West Asia.
 Uthman – Third caliph. He expanded Islam influence into Libya, Armenia, Cyprus, and
Afghanistan. There have been struggle for leadership between two prominent Islamic
leaders.
 Ali ibn Abi Talib – Muhammad’s cousin, first male converted to Islam who become the
leader of Shia Islam.
 Muawiyyah – Uthman’s cousin, member of influencial Umayyad family, the leader of
Sunni Islam.
Islam is a monotheistic religion. Muslims believe that Allah is the one supreme God and has
no partners or equal. He is the recognized creator and sustainer of the universe. Allah is a
unique, incomparable God, and is the one that should be worshipped solely by believers.
The Five Pillars of Islam
These refers to the five duties that every Muslim must perform which is also known as arkan al-
din. These acts are integrated into the lives of Muslims and take precedence over worldly
matters. By performing these duties, Muslims live out their Islamic faith and bring themselves
close to salvation. ( Shahada, Salah, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj )
Hinduism
Hinduism is a term used by British Colonizers to refers to population of India who were
neither Muslim nor Christian. It is a religion of the Dharma.
Dharma is the timeless of all life. Dharma also according to the Hindu’s belief and practice, is
what holds the universe are together. Dharma which means duty, correct practice and truth. To

The Hindu has a holly book called the Veda, though less studied than texts, the Veda is the
central scripture of Hinduism. The revealed texts constitute the Veda, divided into four
sections: the Rig Vida, the Yajur Veda, the Sama Veda, and the Altharva Veda.

Hinduism is hard to study and define, for we cannot think in terms of a mainstream faith with a
number of neat offshoots. Rather it is religion that embrace an enormous diver of belief and
practice
Buddhism
Is one of the world’s largest religion, having begun in 2,500 years ago. Buddhist believe

The path is alluded in the fourth truth in the The Eightfold Path which serves as both guide on
the road to no attachment and the road to itself.
According to Buddhist history, the Buddha was Hindu prince named Siddhartha
Gautama, whose father shield him from witnessing or experiencing any sorrow for the first 29
years of his life in order to prevent a prophesy from being fulfilled. A seer predicted that if
Siddhartha faced agony or death, he would become a great spiritual leader. Siddhartha grew up
in a sort of pleasure palace, protected from the outside world, until one day when his
coachman ( or a substitute for his usual coachman ) drove him out of the complex and he met
the four signs. The first he met was a Aged Man, and the second he met was a Sick Man, the
third one is was Dead man, and the last he met was Ascetic Man. After he met the four signs, he
realize that he could become a sick man, would grow old, and would die, and also he well lose
everything that he loved. So he understood that the life was just a living guaranteed.

The Buddha informed his pupils “ Monks, the goal of religious life is not to gain material profit,
to gain veneration, to attain the highest morality, or to be capable of the highest mental
concentration.” Monks, the ultimate goal of religious life is complete mental liberty.
