Knowing Oneself- UNDERSTANDING ONESELF DURING MIDDLE AND LATE ADOLESCENCSE
Self Concept- is the image we have of ourselves. It is influenced by many forces, including our interaction
with the important people in our lives. It is how we perceive our behaviors, abilities, and unique
characteristics.
2Categories Of Self Concept
Ideal Self- is the self that you aspire
Actual Self- is the one that you actually see.
Congruent- When it is aligned, it is said to be congruent. (HINDI KASAMA SA TOTONG BUHAY)
Incongruence- If there is a mismatch between how you see yourself (your self-image) and who you wish
you were (your ideal self), your self-concept is incongruent. This incongruence can negatively affect SELF
ESTEEM. (HINDI MAGKAPAREHA ANG KUNG SINO KA AT SINO KA)
Alignment- If the way that I am is not aligned with how I want to be, the incongruence, or lack of
alignment, will result in mental distress or anxiety. (KUNG WALANG ALIGNMENT WALA KANG PLANO)
Determination- it allows you to focus only on achieving a specific goal without being distracted bye less
importan thing or spontaneous desire.
Self Confidence- it appears in the process of personal development, as a result of getting yourself, your
actions and their consequences.
Persistence- it makes you keep moving forward regardless of emerging obstacles problems,laziness,bad
emotional state, ect.
Managing Stress- it combat stress that arises in daily life from the environment and other people.
Problem solving skills- they help cope with the problems encountered with a lack of experience.
Creativity- it allows you to find extraordinary ways to carry out a specific action that no one has tried to
use.
Generating Ideas- Generating ideas involves using creative approaches, such as mental maps, to visualize
and refine thoughts, enhancing personal effectiveness and simplifying the achievement of goals.
Puberty- refers to the physiological changes included in the sexual maturation of a child along with the
body changes that may take place during this period.
Adolescence- is the stage from puberty to adulthood and involves the psychological experience during
this period.
3 Stages Of Development
1. EARLY ADOLESCENCE (Ages 10-14)
2. MIDDLE ADOLESCENCE (Ages 15-17)
3. LATE ADOLESCENCE (Ages 18-24)
Personal Development- is the conscious pursuit of personal growth by expanding self-awareness and
knowledge and improving personal skills.

Carl Gustav Jung- “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it
fate.”
Stage 1: Early Infancy - Trust vs. Mistrust (1–2 years)
Stage 2: Toddler - Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt (2–4 years)
Stage 3: Early Childhood - Initiative vs. Guilt (4–7 years)
Stage 4: Middle Childhood - Industry vs. Inferiority (7–11 years)
Stage 5: Adolescence - Identity vs. Identity Confusion (11–18 years)
Stage 6: Young Adulthood - Intimacy vs. Isolation (18–29 years)
Stage 7: Middle Adulthood - Generativity vs. Stagnation (29–48 years)
Stage 8: Older Adulthood - Integrity vs. Despair (48–78+ years)
