COMPUTER STUDIES
(PRACTICAL)

Paper 2

2 hours 30 minutes

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:

This paper consists of two sections, A, and B.

Section A contains one compulsory question.

Section B contains three questions. Attempt any two questions from this section.

Any additional questions(s) answered will not be marked.

Each candidate is provided with a new blank Compact Disc (CD)

Candidates should continuously save their work.

Each candidate must produce a hard copy for each of their work to accompany the Compact Disc
(CD)

SECTION A (40 MARKS)


This Sections is compulsory.

1. (a) (i) Open a word processing program and typeset the given text
Save it as your name and personal number. (06 marks)

GPS TEXT

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based navigation system that provides location and
time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an
unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. The system provided critical capabilities to
military, civil, and commercial users around the world. The United States government created the
system, maintains it, and makes it freely accessible toany one with a GPS receiver
The US began the GPS project in 1973 to overcome the limitations of previous navigation systems,
integrating ideas from several predecessors, including a number of classified engineering design
studies from the 1960s. The U.S Department of Defense (DoD) developed the system, which
originally used 24 satellites. It became fully operational in 1995. Roger L.Easton, Ivan A. Getting and
Bradford Parkinson are credited with inventing it.

i. Insert two blank pages after the text. (01 mark)

ii. Insert page numbers in the document. (01 mark)

iii. Copy the text to page 3. (02 marks)

iv. Insert a watermark of your name in the document. (02 marks)

v. Format each paragraph on page 3 to a hanging indent. (02 marks)

vi. Add a border around the text excluding the heading and the source.

vii. Use the font dialog box to increase character spacing of the heading.
(02 marks)

viii. Add a footer of your name and personal number. (01 mark)

ix. Save and print your work. (01 mark)

(b) A shop sells furniture to customers on credit. The table below shows the
names of the customers and the cost of the furniture bought.

i. Using any spreadsheet software, enter the given data and save it as your name and personal
number. (04 marks)
ii. Add an appropriate title for the table. (02 marks)

Use suitable formulas /functions in questions (iii) to (v) to calculate:

iii. Deposit which is 25% of the cost of furniture. (02 marks)

iii. Balance after deposit. (02 marks)

v. Monthly instalments which are paid equally in a period of two years.

v. On a new sheet, create a fully labeled Pie-Chart using the customer name and cost of
furniture. Name the sheet Customers. (05 marks)

v. Insert your name and personal number as footer. (02 marks)

v. Save and print all your work. (01 mark)

SECTION B :( 60 MARKS)
Answer any two questions from this section

a. A proprietor of three restaurants would like to have a website to advertise the


business.Design a three-page website for the restaurant as follows:

i. Home Page: Should include:

 Introduction

 Links to other pages.

 A marquee

 Contact address. (08 marks)

ii. Page II: should include: A food menu/prices in form of a


table. (08 marks)

iii. Page III: should include: a four column table to display the
details of the three restaurants. (08 marks)

b. Insert appropriate graphics in your pages (03 marks)

b. Design a table with the fields in the given table. Use appropriate data types for each field.
Name it Fuel Table. (05 marks)

c. Enter the given data in the Fuel Table. (05 marks)

c. Create a form that will be used to add new records. (03 marks)

c. Insert a calculated field to determine the Total amount to be paid.

c. Make a query that will filter cars which consumed 15 or more litres of diesel. Save it as
Diesel. (03 marks)

g. Sort the data in the Fuel Table according to Total amount in descending order.
(03 marks)

g. Make a report based on the sorted Fuel Table and save it as Consumption.
(03 marks)
g. Save and print all your work. (02 marks)

3. You are required to design a six-slide presentation on computer hardware.

a. The slides include the following information:

a. Slide I: The main topic for the lesson and a brief description.
(03 marks)

i. Slide II: Input devices: Provide a bulleted list of at least four


examples of input devices and their functions.
(04 marks)

ii. Slide III: Output devices: Give two device and their functions.
(04 marks)

iii. Slide IV: Storage devices: Tabulate the examples using two
categories, Optical Storage and Non Optical storage
devices. (04 marks)

iv. Slide V: Communication Hardware. Identify two examples


and briefly how they work. (04 marks)

iv. Slide VI: Revision questions. Outline three revision questions


about computer hardware devices. (03 marks)

b. Apply a transition to all slides and set them to loop continuously till escape.
(02 marks)

b. Insert the current date that updates automatically as a footer and your name and personal
number as a header. (03 marks)

b. Save your work. (01 mark)

Print all the six slides on the same page. (02 mark)
