Home Economics

Introduction
Study of Home Economics
Home Economics (also known as Family
and Consumer Sciences) is the profession
and field of study that deals with the
economics and management of the home
and community. It encompasses various
areas of formal study, such as consumer
education, institutional management,
interior design, home furnishing, cleaning,
handicrafts, sewing, clothing and textiles,
commercial cooking, nutrition, food
preservation, hygiene, child development,
internet safety, managing money,
and family relationships.
Study of Home Economics in TTCA
S1 (Management of Home):
Basic sewing skills, basic cooking
skills, knowledge of sewing and
cooking equipment, nutritional
knowledge, hygiene, and meal
planning are all applicable in daily
life.
Study of Home Economics in TTCA
S2 (Management of Community/Business):
Advanced sewing skills, advanced cooking
skills, and knowledge of issues related to
healthy eating (such as food labels and
food preservation) are applicable in the
community and for business purposes.
Assessment of H.E.
1. Each student will receive marks (out
of 10) for each lesson, including the
pre-lesson worksheets and classwork.
2. It is necessary to bring the I-pad,
apron*, food box*, and ingredients*
(for cooking lessons) to every class.
Assessment of H.E.
3. Higher marks or bonus points/gifts will be
awarded to students who….
• Demonstrate better performance in the pre-
lesson worksheets (booklet)
• Study and complete the pre-lesson worksheets
thoroughly, and make corrections after each
lesson (using the Google Classroom)
• Finish all tasks faster than other groups, which
will earn them higher marks and bonus
ingredients or additional related tasks. The
groups that complete the tasks later
will receive lower marks.
Rules & safety policies in H.E. room

1. Study the guidelines for safety and hygiene


provided in the student handbook.
2. In the event of an emergency, such as a
fire in the Home Economics (H.E.) room,
report it immediately to the teacher. If
the situation worsens, follow the school's
evacuation procedures and evacuate the
room promptly.
3. Eating is NOT allowed without the
permission of teachers.
Routine of H.E. lessons
1. Before the lesson: Study and complete the
pre-lesson worksheets. After each lesson,
make corrections using the Google Classroom.
2. Always bring the apron, food box, and
ingredients. Please note that 2 marks will be
deducted for each missing item. Frozen
ingredients prepared by each group (with
class and name on the package) should
be stored in the refrigerator in the
H.E. room before the morning
devotion.
Routine of H.E. lessons
3. Before the cooking practice starts, it is
important to set the table. Place the woks
and saucepans on the stove (煮食爐).
4. Ensure all washing up is completed before
the end of the lesson. If necessary, stay
after school until the work is done.

Sewing designs on a apron
1. Accept the invitation from the Google
Classroom.
2. Choose your favorite color by filling out the
Google Form provided in the Google
Classroom.
3. Review the PowerPoint notes and complete
Pre-Lesson Worksheet 1 (Q1-3)
4. Obtain pieces of felt and cut out the letters
of your name from the felt.
5. Purchase a sewing kit if needed.
