It is also called CONCERT (COuntry - wide
Network for Computerized Enhanced Reservation
and Ticketing)
• PRS network is a system that has been
developed to enable the railway passengers to
reserve their seats in any train, any class and
between any station in 3 months advance from
any railway reservation counters in India.
• Now, It facilitates not only booking the reserved
tickets from the PRS counters but also providing
on line booking through IRCTC web site and
different types of enquiries like status of
availability, PNR enquiry, IVRS,POET etc,.

• M/s CMC developed the Application Software and
Installed and implemented the desired Hardware
and Networking as per the requirements of Indian
Railways through under supervision and
guidelines of CRIS.
• CRIS is one of the railway organization working
under railway board to look after IT needs of IR.
• PRS started in 1985 as pilot project in new Delhi
and had gone through many software and
hardware versions and phases before getting
present status.

• To serve the tremendous need and demand of
PRS terminals all over the country and the extra
load of various other services like on line booking
and enquiries etc,. it is provided 5 high-end Alfa
VMS servers at five regional centers of New
Delhi,Mumbai, kolkata,Chennai and
Secunderabad.
• These servers are the Universal terminals and
updated the information in each and every server
transparently.
• There are FOUR Alpha servers named as:
Pavan (Alpha ES45),Mahi (Alpha DS20E)Gagan
(Alpha DS20E),Neeru (Alpha DS20E)

• All these FIVE PRS server are networked
together over redundant (Dual) 2 Mbps
dedicated leased links either RCIL & BSNL
or both RCIL or BSNL. Wherever feasible
Railway channels also provided.
• Both the links share the transaction load and
configured for active failover.

PRS – Booking counters connectivity
• Each Dumb terminal port is connected to Statmux
port or Terminal server port which in turn connected
to central server via Switches, Router and
Modems.
• Depending on requirement of PRS counters at
remote locations / stations, the combinations of
terminal servers,statmux and DCMs are used
• Max.16 terminals can be extended using one
statmux and Max.128(8statmux x16each) terminals
can be extended using statmuxs and DCM
