Cutting Directions
Note: Read assembly directions before cutting patches. All Making the Quilt
measurements are cut sizes and include 4" seam allowances. 1. Each pieced border block has 2 units that are

3. Repeat Step 2 to cut other patches as follows: Paying attention to the grain line, position
and mark template 2 on the wrong side of Fabric G. As before, mark the dots. Nestle the
template next to the first patch and mark a second patch 2 (Diagram 2). Mark a total of
8 patch 2 from Fabric G and 8 from Fabric H. Turn the template over and mark 8
#2 #2
patch 2 reversed from Fabric G and 8 from Fabric H. Repeat these steps to mark
8 patch 3 and 8 patch 3 reversed from Fabrics B and C. Cut out the patches.
4. Referring to the block diagrams, join the 3 patches for each block unit in the
order shown, matching dots and sewing with “scant” 4" seam allowances. Diagram 2
Press seam allowances in F/G/C units toward patch 1. Press seam allowances
in E/H/B units toward patch 3.
Each unit should measure 3" x 42". Block Y – Make 8 Block Z – Make 8
Sew the appropriate units together
in pairs to make 8 Block Y and 8 #1 #1 Rev. #1 #1 Rev.

side of the quilt. Repeat for the
opposite side.

7. Join the 22" x 52" rectangles in #1
the order shown to make the top
and bottom pieced borders.
Sew to the quilt.

Finishing the Quilt


Grain Line

8. Layer the quilt with batting and Grain Line


backing and baste. Quilt in the
ditch around borders and block
patches. Bind to finish the quilt.
