B. Concurrent Requirements
(1) Do the service bulletin(s) given in Table 3 with (or before) this service bulletin. You can
do the service bulletin(s) independently.
Table 3. Concurrent Service Bulletin(s)
(2) For SN 149 and lower (series 1) inspect mounting bolts (40, IPL Figure 1) and replace
any bolts, PN 63002206-1 with PN 63003374-1 per CMM.
(3) For SN 1018 and lower, SPB D202106001810: The diaphragms/servo stack (Items
Feedback servo housing, both Air diaphragms, Diaphragm spacer, Diaphragm retainer,
Diaphragm retaining plate) must be replaced with latest version prior to incorporating
this SB.
C. Reason
(1) Problem
(a) Boeing 737 MAX FAMV PN 63292070-3 is experiencing a high rate of seal
failures that prevent the FAMV actuator from closing the flappers.
(2) Background
(a) FAMVs removed for fault codes 36-12020/36-12021, or 36-12030/36-12031
have a high incidence of seal tears identified as the primary root cause of the
fault code.
(3) Benefits
(a) Honeywell determined seal tears can be reduced/eliminated by adding a guide
to the actuator piston to reduce seal damage.
(4) Action
(a) This SB replaces the existing actuator piston and seal with a new piston, seal
and guide. The upgrade requires a shop visit to accomplish.
D. Description
(1) This service bulletin gives instructions to replace the existing actuator piston and seal
with a new piston, seal and guide.
(2) The MOD is optional for SPEX Program units if the repair requires implementation.
E. Compliance
(1) This service bulletin, recommended by Honeywell, is to be accomplished as each unit
is returned to the shop for inspection, test, or repair.
F. Approval
(1) This service bulletin has been reviewed by Boeing and the FAA. The repairs/modifications
comply with FAR part 25 and are approved for installation on aircraft model Boeing 737
MAX.
G. Manpower
(1) Approximately 4 hours to remove and replace parts required to modify valve per this
SB.
