2025 DTE 1 AGRICULTURE PROJECT PORTFOLIO

PROJECT TITTLE: PLANTING OF DHANIA CORIANDER

DAY ONE: We organize ourselves into groups as we started by discussing on the type of vegetable
to be planted while considering the type of climate and soil in our school environment of which we
decided to plant dhania.

DAY TWO: Site selection

We selected the area around the school compound. The place has loamy type of soil and is well
drained with rich in organic matter.

Sunlight: We choose a sunny location as dhania needs full sunlight to grow well.

pH range: Optimal pH is between 6.0 and 7.5

DAY THREE: Land preparation before planting dhania

We prepared the land properly which is essentially for a successful dhania crop.

DAY FOUR: Initial land clearing

We removed weeds, shrabs and stumps to reduce competition and pest hiding places.
DAY FIVE: Ploughing and tilling of the land

We plough the land 2 to 3 times to a depth of about 12-20cm to loosen the soil and improve
aeration. We breakdown large soil clumps to create a fine tilth for a better seed soil contact.

DAY SIX: In cooperate organic matter

We apply well discomposed compost manure and mix it evenly into the soil during the last
ploughing. This improves soil fertility and structure.

DAY SEVEN: Leveling

We level the field to ensure uniform water distribution and avoid water logging and to crete a
smooth even surface.
DAY EIGHT: Bed preparation

We prepared our bed by raising it up because of the type of irrigation we are going to use and the
amount of rainfall. Raise bed work well in heavy rainy areas.

DAY NINE: Pre-irrigation

We apply light irrigation 1-2 days before sowing to help softening the soil and encourage uniform
germination.

DAY TEN: Seed selection, Planting, Mulching and Shading

We selected good seeds before planting as it is essential for healthy growth and high yields.

We choose the right variety depending on our region and needs; that is leafy dhania because it
grows first best for harvesting leaves.

Seed producing dhania is best for spice production. We buy the seeds from satisfied agro-dealers
whereby we clearly look the labeling, variety, lot number, and expiry date.
Spacing 20cm-20cm between rows, within row 5-10cm between plants (thin later if needed)
Planting: We use raw planting method as we sow seeds in rows using hands.

Depth: We sow seeds 1-2cm deep

Mulching: We mulch our bed as it helps in retaining moisture, suppress weeds and regulate soil
temperature. We use dry grass in mulching.

Shading: We shade our bed using droppers and surrounding it with mosquito net to prevent
predators like birds and intruders from people and animals as they may interfere with our crops.
