Q. What is Ms Windows?
It is an operating system software program which developed and
marketed by micro-soft company of USA.
It is very popular software, which is use to worked for graphics
application.
The window 95 is the first operating system.
Q. What is operating system?
It is the interface between user and computer . It manages the all
work of the input and output devices . It keeps track the records of
files & folder. And also it accepts the commands from the user and
provides required result.
Types of operating system
(1) Single user operating system
(2) Multi user operating system
(1) What is a single user operating system?
Only one user can do the work at a time on that
operating system is called single user operating system. eg.-
ms dos , os2 etc.
(2) What is multi user operating system?
More than one user can do the work at a time on that operating
system is called multi user operating system. It is provide the
networking facility. Eg.- windows, Linux etc
Q. What is interface?
It is a system or method which interact the computer the
computer with user. It communicates the system directly with the
user.
Types of interface
Character ue interface (CUI) :- It allows the user to perform
charater type instruction or work. Eg :- ms dos , os2 .
Graphics user interface (GUI) :- It allows the user to perform the
character and grapgics work. Eg:- windows , Linux/Unix etc.
Types of windows
There are three types of windows.
1. Application windows
2. Document Windows
3. Folder windows
(1) Application windows :- Application windows are those types
of windows that contains a program which you running
with namely.Eg:- notepad, ms paint, etc.
(2) Documant windows :- Document windows are those that
contains a document you are working on within applicatin
use.
(3) Folder windows :- Folder windows are those that contains
document windows folder are appear with user define
name.

The windows have the following elements.

The desktop
The desktop is work area while working in windows. It is called the
desktop because windows user the whole screen. We use the top
of desk. All folder/icons/short cuts are appeared on the
screen/desktop.
1. Icon and there types :- In icon is a graphics object that
represent some things on the computer.
A. Folder :- It is a place or space given under a user define
name were you can store the files and folder.
B. System icons:-system icons are displayed a land left edge on
the screen these object are created automatically by
window during it’s installation.

1. My computer:-This icons lest us brows through the resources
connected to the computer .
2. My document :- This icons represent a folder that is use by
many program .it stores the text ,picture, graphics files.
3. Internet explorer:-This icons starts the internet explorers wed
browser.
4. My network place :- It display the list of computer which are on
the network.
5. Recycle bin :- It stores the all delete files and folder .it allows us
to restore the deleted files or folder .
USING THE MOUSE.
1. Click:- Press and release the left mouse button quickly as we
point to an item.
2. Right click :- Select the item and right click a dialogue box
appear form this box and choose open option.
3. Double click:- Select an item and double click quickly by
double clicking and icon/folder/file we can open the
application or windows.
4. Dragging :- Dragging is moving object in the monitor screen
and it is similar to moving to object on a desk.
How can create a folder in a desk top or computer hard disk
(i) Right click on mouse choose new option
choose folder option.
(ii) In the window explore or folder window click the file
menu and choose new and click on folder option.
Rename file and folder
(i) Select an item Right click on mouse
choose rename option.
(ii) Select an item press f2 key on keyboard
Delete files and folder
(i) Select an item Right click on mouse
choose delet option.
(ii) Select an item press del key on keyboard
Note :- after deleting an item is goes to recycle bin .
Restoring the file /folder
Open the recycle bin double click on the object
Choose restore option .
Permanent removing the object from recycle bin
Open the recycle bin double click on the object
Choose delet option
Select an item press shift + del key (for permanently
delet)
Shortcut icons :- These are icons with small arrows in the lower
left corner it provides an easy method to load an object /apply
/quickly.
The task bar :- The task bar can be displayed at bottom or top
on the screen.
Start button:- it is located at the left band of the task bar , click
the start button brings up start menu
Tools bar:- it represents a set of related icons for easy mouse
access.
Task botton:- These are display a center position of the task bar it
display the opened document.
Copy/cut/paste file or folder

(1) Programs:-it display the list of all software which are installed in
computer.

(3) Setting:- it display the option through this options we can
change and apply the setting of hardware and software.
(4) Find/search :-it is used to search the file/ folder from given
path.
(5) Help:-it displays the information and used to short-cut key with
window.
(6) Run:- it is used in networking to connect and disconnect the
computer with network

(1) M s. paint:- it is a graphics program that can be used for
drawing picture.
(2) Notepad/word pad:- it is a word processor which allows to
write a document.
(3) Entertainment:- it allows us to play c.d, to record sound, set the
volume etc.
(4) Games:- it provides three games (solo,sky,wolf)
(5) System tools:-it contains the various utilities that help us in
maintaining to computer.
(6) My brief case:- it is use to keep the various type of files update.
(7) Calculator:-It display a calculator on the screen where the user
can do the calculator.
(8) Control panel :- It is window which displays icons for a number
of program that let us control the computer.
E.g. :- Add new hardware, add/remove, software, date, time, mouse,
keyboard, multimedia, internet etc.

Windows Explore :- It is used to open / display the all files of the
hard disk, compact disk or floppy disk in a window.
Changing the background color of the screen :- We can change the
color or view of the screen by changing the background in window.
Screen saver :- It is a method to display an object on monitor
screen while not working on computer.
