C-arms Basic Concepts
Receptor

X-rays are generated by the tube. The x-rays enter the

image intensifier striking the input phosphor which
converts the x-rays to light. The light is then absorbed by
the photocathode which converts the light to electrons.
The electrons are focused by electrostatic lenses and
strike the output phosphor which converts the electrons
back to light.

In comparison, flat panels have a direct, short signal

conversion path, with essentially no optics. The result is a
flat, uniform image from edge to edge.
Real-time data processing and transfer enable full
resolution/full frame rates without visible stutter and lag,
compared to aSi based systems.
