STANDARD BASIC SCHOOL NEW-NYANYA NASARAWA STATE
PROPRITRESS ORIENTATION SPEECH FOR SSS1 STUDENTS
Good morning SSS1 as we all know this is a new academic year, as the session is new such are
the subjects all of you will encounter, this is another stage of your life which will determine your
future. In Nigeria this is the level of academics in which students are exposed to different fields
and careers and it is up to that student to choose the field that will suit his/her dreams. If you
move around you will see students tuning all across Abuja from kindergarten through various
grades, to university. Surprisingly more than 95% of these students, people write their stories
for them but here in standard school no one write your story for you, you are the master of your
dreams and the master of your destiny. Because students who sat where you are 109 years ago
amalgamated the northern and southern protectorates into one entity and we became united as
one nation young people young as you are, young peoples who sat where you are 63 years ago
moved a non violent protest to gain our independence and put a man on a moon young people,
young lady who sat where you are 40 years ago and founded standard basic and high school
which have groomed hundreds of student across the nation and overseas, young like all of you.
Can I shock you? Young people who sat where you are 20 years ago founded Google,
WhatsApp, Facebook, twitter and change the way we communicate. These people are not
different from any of you; you can do better than them. Here are my rhetorical questions for you
as we begin this new session: what will be your contributions to our universe? What will you do
differently to change our world and make it a home for everyone? What can you do to make life
simple and accessible for less privileged out there? Standard is doing her possible best by
equipping your classrooms and fixing your computers; teachers on the other hand, are doing their
very best by spending a sleepless night on computers and what a view to keep themselves
updated to give you the very best of knowledge you need in order to answer these questions
similarly you parents are doing everything within their capacity to meet up your needs; but all of
these efforts collectively together, will not count in your lives except you play your roles. Your
roles includes: abiding with school’s rules and regulations, reading your books, doing all the
assignment giving to you by the teachers.
I have this believe deep inside of me, that each and every one of you has something you are good
at, therefore I want you to commit to it, work for it and develop your gift and intellect as bible
say “a man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men”. This new level of
academics is strange from what you normally know in the lower classes but don’t be dismayed
neither be discouraged, don’t let your fears draw you back instead let your fears teach you
something great and different in life; Michael Jordan who time magazine has recognized as the
father of basketball once said “I fell over and over and over again that is why I succeeded”,
similarly Deshuana Berber who was the first black lady and fist soldier to win miss USA in 2016
once said “FEAR IS THE BIRTH OF REGREAT”. And I’m personally creating awareness this
morning for all of you, that FEAR is not a bad thing in life, it is a good thing when you use it in a
right way; as FEAR stands for Face Everything And Rise or Forget Everything And Run it is up
to you to choose from the two dimensions of fear. I would like to share the story of two young
men who met the starve lion in the forest, when the both of them saw the lion, one was so fearful
that he run at the speed he has never ran in his life while the other one was so fearful that he
cannot move even a distance of inch, and you don’t expect me to proceed with the story to tell
you who among the two young men serve as a diner to the lion. Don’t allow your fear stop you
from making steps forward like that young man; instead let it serve as a catalyst that will ignite
fire for you take actions.
On behalf of myself and my staffs, I congratulate and welcome both new and returning students
to 2023/2024 academic session.
Thank you all for listening.
